Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine.
Katherine, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey began with a love for design and a passion for celebrations for my kids 10 years ago. This passion turned into a profession when I realized I could use my skills to make magic happen. Everyone would always tell me that I was very talented and that I should take the next step.
July 2017, I coordinated my wedding on my own, and in within 2 months everything was set. Everyone was impressed of how beautiful everything came out and there the thought of starting a business was born. But the negative thought was always there. I had always been so scared if I was ever going to get hire at all. I always thought to myself that I was going to fail or not be able to make it at all simply because of the time, money, my job, my kids and my home. I had no idea where, how to start.
Years went by and I was still planning parties for families and friends and not until someone who I admirer so much told me how talented I was, and to not be scared of being a businessperson. He said to me “Mija, life is about taking risk, if you don’t you will always be stuck in the same place. You have nothing to lose, but everything to gain.”
A few months after that, April 2022, KDH DEKOR was born, I decided to take this road and a year of hard work and dedication after, April 2023 I was able to leave my accounting job that I had for over 7 years. KDH DEKOR was named after my 3 daughters, Kate, Destiny, Helen, DEKOR with the “K” was just a unique touch for Katherine.
2022, and 2023 were the hardest year trying to build a brand, but I can tell you that all my hard work paid off. I am still growing and have so many goals to achieved
Now with over 3 years of experience in the event planning industry, I’ve had the joy of bringing more than thousands of projects to life.
My goal has always been to create seamless, stress-free events that allow my client to focus on what truly matters—celebrating their event with family and friends.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a hard job.
from not knowing where to start, how to price, how to advertise, and how to style an event. I had to stay up at night doing research, learning and working hard while growing my brand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Event planning, decorating, balloons. People know me most as a Balloon Artist. I love being able to take the stress off my clients when it comes to putting everything together. from styling, matching colors, figuring out how to plan an event from start to finish.
I take pride of what I do, I have a passion for this. I think what set me apart from others is that I love what I can create and not so much for how much I can earn. I mean don’t get me wrong being able to earn while working on what I am passionate for. why not? Is a plus!
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My qualities for my success I would say are:
Integrity, Perseverance, Positive attitude, Passion for work, and the ability to learn and grow from failures.
