Check Out Kelly Blackall’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Blackall.

Hi Kelly , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I love my job, I love portraits, and I LOVE weddings. I actually started out as a certified wedding coordinator in my early 20s, and when I launched Blackall Photography back in 2008, it was truly one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. From the proposal to the vows, I love every bit of it—especially getting to document love stories in a real, timeless way.

My love for photography actually started way before that, with my Grandpa Bear. He taught me how to shoot and process film, and those memories of being in the dark room and developing prints are still some of my favorites. Later on, working on the yearbook and newspaper staff at Lewisville High School (Go Farmers!) really cemented my love for storytelling through both words and imagery.

Now, years later, I’ve had the joy of watching this little business of mine grow right alongside my community. In addition to weddings and portraits, I’ve slowly become the go-to for so many high school seniors in the area, and I’m honored to be the one local professionals turn to for headshots, branding, and more.

I live in Old Town Lewisville in a sweet little farmhouse with my Cowboy and our wild pack of dogs. When I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me outdoors—either gardening, shooting my bow, or doing some good old-fashioned porch sitting. Sundays are sacred for us—we spend the day at church, resting, and recharging, which is why I don’t book weddings or sessions that day. I like to say I’m the Chick-fil-A of photographers—closed on Sundays!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, definitely not a smooth road—but I think that’s true for most small business owners. Starting out, I had no roadmap. I knew how to take a good photo and tell a story, but learning how to run a business, build systems, market myself, handle taxes, pricing, and client communication—it was a lot of trial and error. There were seasons where the work was nonstop and others where I was praying for just one inquiry to come through.

I’ve also had to learn how to set boundaries the hard way—especially early on when I was saying yes to everything just to build momentum. Burnout is real, and I had to figure out how to run my business in a way that still allowed me to have a life, spend time with my husband and our dogs, go to church, and enjoy the little things!

But those struggles shaped how I operate today. I’m better at protecting my time, serving my clients with intention, and knowing my worth. And I still get to do what I love every day—that’s a blessing I don’t take for granted.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a portrait and wedding photographer based right here in Old Town Lewisville, Texas. I specialize in weddings, high school seniors, and headshots—but really, I’m a storyteller at heart. Whether it’s the joy of a wedding day, the confidence of a senior session, or the polish of a professional headshot, I aim to capture people in a way that feels real, timeless, and true to them.

What I’m probably most known for is how I connect with people. My sessions aren’t overly posed or stiff—I want you to feel relaxed and seen. A lot of my clients turn into friends, and I’ve been photographing some families since their babies were born. I even had one little guy recently tell me, “I love you, Miss Kelly.” I mean… it doesn’t get better than that.

I’m really proud of the reputation I’ve built, especially here in my hometown. I’ve become the go-to for a lot of our local high school seniors and professionals, which means the world to me. I also hand-edit every single image myself—no outsourcing—because I believe every client deserves that extra care. You won’t see heavy filters or trendy edits in my work. Just bold, clean, true-to-color images that will still look beautiful years from now.

What sets me apart? I’d say it’s a mix of experience, heart, and consistency. I’ve been doing this full-time since 2008, and I bring my full self to every session. No fluff, no filters, just honest, vibrant storytelling with a little southern sass and a whole lot of heart.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I always say—if you’re drawn to my work, let’s chat! Whether you’re newly engaged, a graduating senior, needing a fresh headshot, or just want updated family portraits, I’d love to be your photographer. You can reach out through my website or just message me directly—I’m pretty quick to respond unless it’s a Sunday!

If you’re a local business or creative looking to collaborate, I’m always open to connecting—especially if it helps shine a light on the good happening here in our community. I love teaming up for branding shoots, styled content, or even just swapping ideas over coffee in Old Town.

And honestly, one of the best ways people can support me is simply by sharing my work, tagging me on social media, or referring me to their friends. Word of mouth means the world, and I’m so grateful for every single person who believes in what I do.
