Check Out Kendall Castillo’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Castillo.

Kendall Castillo

Hi Kendall, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, my mom instilled the passion of serving others in me. She worked for a non-profit for most of my childhood, and I got to see firsthand the joy of helping others. From early on, I knew I wanted to feel that joy in my 9-5 job.

I have had the privilege of always working for a non-profit throughout my career. With that being said, I’ve always done something that I’m passionate about. Now, I get to work with and alongside entrepreneurs to help them start, grow and build their businesses. On August 1, I had the honor of opening up a new Fort Worth Entrepreneur Center called Create FW. Although that comes with lots of moving parts, stress, and changes, it’s been so worth it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! Change is inevitable. Change is hard. Change has to be embraced. I’ve learned that change CAN be a good thing, even if it’s tumultuous along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am the Senior Manager of Events & Operations for The DEC Network. The DEC Network is a 501c3 non-profit organization that helps entrepreneurs start, build, and grow their businesses. I’m motivated by creating events that help entrepreneurs come together and develop new skills to help their businesses grow. As a woman of color, I’m passionate about helping women and people of color entrepreneurs find a place where they can belong. That’s what I’m most proud of – seeing people like me in the room feel seen and heard.

How do you think about luck?
Honestly, I don’t really believe in luck. As a person of faith, I believe everything happens in God’s plan. Even if something in life or in business doesn’t seem like it went to MY plan, it wasn’t my plan to begin with.
