Check Out Kenny Nguyen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Nguyen.

Kenny Nguyen

Hi Kenny, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started off as a dancer. I gradually got involved in the dance community, and from there, I was addicted to filming my progress in dance. I became aware of doing film around dance at the time and eventually got hooked into getting in the film world. As I went around to dance classes, I noticed that a lot of people used their phones to record and didn’t have anyone with a professional camera to record, so I decided to step up and get a camera to make that the first step into being a videographer. I had some friends that asked me to record some dance classes, and they eventually liked how I recorded their dance videos. I eventually got booked with other people and made many connections as well as friendships with people I met through the dance community and film community. So far, it has been an amazing journey with creating my own business named KN Productions, and has been going strong from the connections I have gained through my experience. I had the opportunity filming well-known dancers such as Aliya Janell, Nicole Kirkland, Phil Wright, and many more. I have also had reposts from famous artists through social media, such as Cardi B, Beyonce, Karol G, and many more. From this experience, I have learned many things of being a videographer and will continue to do so for my career.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road; some struggles that I faced were dealing with unprofessional clients and doing things alone as a freelancer. I also faced struggles of my budget for film equipment and editing software, so I had to start small when I started. I would be booked mostly during the nighttime, so there would be times when I would miss out on spending time with family and friends, so I’ve had to make some sacrifices. Although I’ve dealt with these experiences, I’ve learned to overcome them and trust in myself to make the right decision of who I spend my time with.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a videographer who specializes in dance videos and action films with VFX. I’m proud of my way of movement with the camera and my editing skills. Something that sets me apart is my ability to adapt in unplanned situations and make things work. I’m able to make others feel comfortable and have a fun set throughout the shoot, and I also am creative with my ideas of creating a visual output for the video.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk-taking.
We’ve all been there on risk-taking. I’ve taken many risks, such as getting a risky shot and being able to shoot in dangerous places just to get the shot. The risk of getting the perfect shot is something that I would take. If it’s something that will provide the video with a better outcome for the final product, I feel like it would be worth taking that risk.
