Today we’d like to introduce you to Kentrell Spencer
Hi Kentrell , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Yes. I was born and raised in Starkville, MS. I was a pure athlete. Football, baseball, track, tennis. Besides family, football was my first love. It was how my family bonded. We also bonded on Sundays by going to church, football/dinner, TCBY, then ride around to look at new homes being built or newly built. I started playing football at the age of 5 til my last day of college. Football was my only (Full Scholarship) path to education, which paved the way for me. Football is how I met my closest friends. On new years morning around 2 am, my best friend/team mate Devin was shot and killed by an intoxicated man who mistakenly thought my best friend was another individual. Still tears me up til this day, but that day made me see life from an entirely different lens. It put extra value and emphasis on how valuable time is, and to make the most of what God has for me. I received a full ride to play at Northwest Community College (Senatobia, MS). Northwest is one of the highest academic and top junior college (football) in the nation. After graduating Northwest with my associates degree, I received another full ride to play football at Lane College (Jackson, TN). While attending Lane college, I joined the best fraternity ever to exist, KAPPA ALPHA PSI (Beta Lambda, SPR. 17), won the school’s “Victory Bell Award”, as well as graduated cum laude with my Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education. Next, I went on to attend the University of Southern Mississippi where I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Sports Management. My goal was is become an Athletic Director of a University/High School, or to become a sports agent. I’ve always strived to achieve more and I have always made up in my mind that I will always represent my family and MAKE THEM PROUD! I am the first generation of my family. 1st to graduate college, first to get a masters degree, first to move 3 states away from home to pursue a career. I moved to Dallas, TX to start my teaching career which are steps that I need in order to reach my end goal. I have been teaching for Dallas Independent School District for 3 years now. I’ve always had a love for houses. I found it to be interesting and admirable on how different homes can be customized and the end result is stunning as ever. So I pushed myself REALLY HARD to study for the Texas/Nationa[ Real Estate exam, and I passed on my very first try. All thanks to the man above! I joined brokerage (Ronark Realty Co.) and now I’m on my journey to success one step at a time. Self discipline and grace are big factors in which help me to move forward and achieve more. I am currently doing dual careers because as much as I love houses, I love educating the youth and being the role model they deserve.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. Everything happens in seasons. I’ve dealt with adversity mostly along each step of this journey. But, dealing with it so much, I’ve become resilient and those adversity moments has only strengthened the areas where I needed it the most.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a 3rd grade math/science teacher. Last year, I taught 4th grade self-contained (ALL SUBJECTS). I am an elementary educator who just enjoys pouring new foundational knowledge into my students and see how it carries over after they advance. It’s almost like planting small seeds and watching them grow and blossom onto better. I’m most proud of the fact that a young black man from Mississippi could move 3 states over and step into a field he has never even experienced nor thought was possible, is doing an AMAZING fields of endeavor. Striving for excellence and achievements are what motivates me to want more for myself in life. I am a COMPETITOR!
What’s next?
My future plans are to do dual careers for a few more years. Maybe even more, But within a year from now, my real estate business will be lifted off the ground and I will be making major moves that I’ve been deserving for my whole life. God is AMAZING! I will always continue to be a man of integrity and character, and always be better than I was the day before.
