Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiki Carr.
Hi Kiki, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I literally feel like I was born in this, Beauty has always been my business. The match that struck the fire of my passion AVON as a little girl I had a Great Aunt who was most definitely an entrepreneur and a Diva. Learning the basics of salesmanship and consultation follow-up care and marketing. All those basic beginning blocks of being a beauty pro started there and it led me to the Ogle school of Beauty in ARLINGTON Texas. I acquired my License and setup upon a journey of self-discovery and self-development. Navigating through the highest-rated spa salons in the ARLINGTON /Mansfield area. during a time of being the only in most cases black female on staff in the late 90″s and early 2000s. I suffered with cystic acne as a teen, and I researched and experimented with many products and regimens to conquer and overcome my issues, I shared my knowledge and skills with each client a mission of healing the skin and renewing the mind. Beauty is more than skin deep its mind and body. Successfully overcoming my skin issues was the guideline to help develop my approach and technique of facial and body treatments that I incorporate in my services, Natural Beauty Habitat is unique in spa culture a mini spa concept with full spa amenities. Personal private beauty treatments catering to your specific needs with proven protocols and consultations. Exclusively using Gm Collin global brand that is 100 percent vegan and pharmaceutical. 65 years of innovative science in concert with 25 years of my experience in beauty. The perfect combination to provide my guest with an experience that is relaxing and beneficial.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It takes 10,000 hours of intensive practice to achieve Expert mastery of complex skills and materials. That is a decade of dedication of commitment and passion. 25 years of experience did come with a myriad of learning curves. The hardest of all is gaining confidence. To get those gains, gains require practice. I have witnessed how the beauty industry has changed in the aspects of what beauty standards of the communities we live in and now where global beauty standards are today. My earliest struggles were opportunities Affirmative action rewarded me with that gift. Once I was hired, I had to study to point of verbatim recital of protocols and ingredients of product to ease and comfort my clients and employers to assure them I can do the job. I made a decision to be open to rejection and obvious dubious looks of clients who were very aware that my culture and skin was very different than theirs. I concentrated on what was the same the similarities were tied to being female and stressors. Women are courageous in sacrifice and ultimately those sacrifices take a toll on how much money is invested in skincare products and time spent on regimen. I ask the right questions that put the focus on what got them in my chair or service table that day. If there was one thing or even more, you could change about your skin what would it be? Pandora’s box has just been open and in that one question, I can define skin type, and stressors and plan a regime to begin healing. Skin fitness is a parallel line to physical fitness breaking of bad habits, digestion hydration exercise, and rest. Once the client was assured that my sole purpose is to provide service for them the initial resistance was overcome. Also, without a doubt, I had allies and mentors who wanted me to succeed despite the passive aggression of reluctant clientele.AS my career progress the next obstacle was being successful and keeping at bay certain co-workers and employers from dimming my light and road blocking to keep me from climbing that ladder to break that glass ceiling. Focus and Patience and trusting human nature at its best and its worse was a constant juggling act. I balanced that with prayer and optimism. A spoon full of sugar makes the medicine go down. Such is life bitter and sweet and my best position to take is to endure. Endurance resulted in the opening of Natural Beauty Habitat endeavoring in hope and bulldog tenacity. Taking this chance to bring health and healing to my guest during these incredible times of covid, inflation, and recession.
