Hi Kitrina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I became interested in balloons when I made a welcome home balloon column for my daughter and a birthday balloon bouquet for my husband. It was a fun challenge and it brought them so much joy. From then I realized I could bring more people joy. So I worked on my skills through a ton of practice. I practiced each skill until I felt confident. When I became sure I could deliver a winning product to a customer then I opened my business. It has been almost 5 years of good and a lot of challenging times. And I have enjoyed all of them. I’ve been able to accomplish a variety of design styles and I’ve had a chance to work for a variety of clients.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are definitely struggles that small business go through and I haven’t been immune to them. Gathering clients is always a challenge, but I have been fortunate to have repeat clients. I’m so grateful for them. Also educating clients about balloon pricing had been quite the challenge. A lot of people were not aware that balloon work is not cheap. It’s not “just balloons”, it’s the skill that you use to turn the balloons into structures and sculptures. You have to pay for the top quality balloons we use and our to quality skills to make your to quality product. In the balloon industry you get what you pay for. If you are looking for the cheapest price you will get the lowest quality product and sub par skills. That’s just the reality of things.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a balloon design artist. I specialize in organic balloon art such as organic balloon garlands, organic balloon columns, and organic balloon walls. I am most proud of the time when I got to do my biggest organic balloon garland for my first corporate client. It was over 40ft long! What sets me apart from others is my constant communication with my clients from start to finish. Clients want to be heard and they want to know that you can and will bring their vision to life.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I loved learning new skills especially working with my hands. If it looks good, taste good, or brings people joy I wanted to learn about it. Before I found balloons I used to make and decorate cakes for my family, friends, and co workers.
