Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Godby Ford.
Hi Lauren, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Photography has been a lifelong passion for me, dating back to my earliest memories. There are cherished home videos of me as a child constantly reaching for the camera, underscoring my innate love for this art form. My journey into photography took shape during my high school years, where I immersed myself in the art. Following that, I pursued higher education at Texas Christian University, where I chose to minor in photography, and this academic path deepened my understanding and appreciation for the art.
Now, four years after graduating from college and recently married, I find myself fully dedicated to my photography business, Lauren Godby Photography, in the vibrant Dallas and Fort Worth areas. Over the course of 10+ years, I’ve had the privilege of capturing countless special moments for various clients, including high school and college seniors, families, businesses, newborns, engaged couples, rehearsal dinners, and beyond.
My photography serves as an outlet for my innate creativity and artistic vision. It allows me to capture the special moments through a colorful lens and bring my artistic ideas to life. Each click of the camera shutter represents a moment frozen in time, and it’s a privilege to share this journey with my clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In retrospect, my journey in the photography business has been more smooth than turbulent. I’ve been fortunate to receive invaluable guidance from mentors and have greatly benefited from my education at TCU. However, in recent times, particularly over the past year, I’ve encountered some challenges. One challenge arose with my recent relocation from my hometown, Fort Worth, to Dallas following my marriage. The majority of my initial clientele was based in Fort Worth, and transitioning to the Dallas area has presented a learning curve as I endeavor to expand my client base. Nonetheless, I have always embraced challenges with open arms, and I am committed to enhancing my success and establishing a strong brand presence in Dallas.
Another noteworthy hurdle I have encountered is finding a harmonious balance between my role as the owner of my online boutique, Lojewels, alongside my photography business. Navigating two businesses becomes increasingly demanding, requires careful time management, and unwavering dedication to both. However, I am profoundly grateful to have the privilege of nurturing two businesses that I am so passionate about. The most rewarding aspect is the joy I bring to my customers through my services, as their satisfaction remains my ultimate goal.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a creative portrait photographer, my work transcends the realm of mere imagery; it is a harmonious blend of artistry and storytelling. My aim is not just to capture photographs but to encapsulate moments, emotions, and stories within each frame.
For me, portraiture is a profound endeavor, far more than the act of snapping pictures; it’s about crafting visual narratives that resonate with depth and authenticity.
My photography style emphasizes on crafting images that are aesthetically candid, exuding a soft, airy, and luminous quality that imbues them with an ethereal charm. Within every face, I perceive a story yearning to be shared, and my goal is to not only showcase the individual but to unveil the very essence that resides behind their eyes.
Each session I undertake is a personal journey with my clients. I prioritize ensuring they feel not only comfortable and relaxed but also empowered in front of the camera. This collaborative approach often leads to the creation of images that are profoundly genuine and exudes the client’s personality in the best way.
Ultimately, my mission as a photographer is to fashion timeless, resonant portraits that penetrate the heart and soul of each person I have the privilege of photographing. My work is a testament to the power of visual storytelling, where every portrait is a narrative of its own, etching the unique stories and emotions of those within the frame.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
The role of good luck in my life and photography business has been significant, particularly in the realm of social media. About eight years ago, my online boutique started by chance and was not planned. The power of social media is key, and fortunately, I already had a substantial following on my personal social media account. This lucky strike paved the way for the growth of both my businesses, Lojewels and Lauren Godby Photography.
Additionally, being a native of Fort Worth has proven to be a valuable asset for my photography business. It has greatly contributed to word-of-mouth referrals and established connections within the Fort Worth and Dallas communities. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to build a strong and successful reputation, thanks to the opportunities that serendipity has brought my way.
