Check Out Leidy Munoz’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Leidy Munoz.

Leidy Munoz

Hi Leidy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a very young age, I have been deeply passionate about drawing, visual arts, and the world of art as a whole. As a child, I would scribble on every notebook or magazine I could find—and to this day, I still do.

I grew up in Bogotá, Colombia’s capital, a multicultural city renowned for its rich art and cultural expression. I studied Graphic Design and later Advertising. It was during my university years that I became fully immersed in the artistic world, learning alongside incredibly talented people who are now recognized references in urban art across Colombia and Latin America.

At the same time, I was exploring and refining my illustration style, working on small local projects that allowed me to bring my art into the world. However, I must admit that there were many moments of self-doubt, which eventually led me to work professionally as a planner and copywriter in advertising agencies.

Entering the agency world was not in vain. From that experience, I gained two invaluable things: the opportunity to be part of large-scale creative projects and my husband, with whom I built a beautiful family.

We moved to Dallas approximately two years ago, driven by a strong desire to grow as artists. On a personal level, I continue to work consistently on my art with the goal of sharing it, making a living from it, and emotionally connecting with people through what I create. I have spent years developing my style, and today I feel ready to share it with all of you.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has by no means been an easy path. I have constantly struggled with imposter syndrome, doubted my talent countless times, and distanced myself from my art—only to return to it again and again. Additionally, the level of artistic competition in Colombia is extremely high, which has long intensified my self-doubt.

Financial limitations also played a role in slowing my growth as an artist. Although my true desire was to make a living from my art, I struggled to find a viable way to do so. As a result, I temporarily set that dream aside and continued working in advertising agencies.

On a personal level, it has been a demanding journey. Building confidence in myself has not been easy; however, I have worked consistently on it, because if there is one thing I want to teach my son, it is to pursue his dreams with determination—no matter what challenges may arise.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an illustrator and artist with a strong focus on digital illustration. My work primarily explores the feminine figure, as well as fauna, flora, and the worlds that orbit around them. It is characterized by an in-depth exploration of color, shape, and texture, and by the creation of surreal and magical scenarios.

I believe that my style, while it may resonate with that of other artists, has its own distinct voice and can speak for itself. I am deeply committed to bringing life to my illustrations through characters that convey emotion, identity, and narrative.

I take great pride in seeing my illustrations become part of people’s homes, as well as being featured in packaging and a wide range of creative projects.

Over the past two years, I have been focused on evolving my illustration practice and complementing it with other artistic processes, such as ceramics. I have been studying and exploring this new creative universe, which has deeply captured my interest, and I would love to organically integrate it with my illustration work. I would be delighted to share this new creative process through my social media platforms.

What makes you happy?
It brings me deep joy to see a finished piece—printed or painted—in the hands of someone other than my own. Witnessing the happiness of others when they receive my art, and seeing how they value it as much as I do, greatly strengthens my confidence. It is one of the most positive and rewarding emotions I can experience.

I also find happiness in having a powerful idea take shape in my mind. It creates a kind of positive anticipation—an excitement that drives me to explore it and bring it to life. Good ideas do not come every day, which is why when a truly bright one appears, it feels like an immediate spark of joy.
