Check Out Lindsay Mears’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Mears.

Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My whole life has been about books and stories. I grew up reading Nancy Drew, Goosebumps, and when I got a little older, I got into Harry Potter and bought every book written by Meg Cabot. Books were my escape, and I always knew I wanted to be in the Publishing world. I always thought I’d be an author (and maybe I still can be), but my life took a different path and I ended up working in healthcare. After a decade of different branches in healthcare, I felt burnt out, and wanted to figure out how to surround myself with the people (writers) and things (books) that brought me joy day in and day out, and try to make a living that way. I posted a few small services on Fiverr and booked my first two authors: Nicole Gabor (Catwalk) and Michele Kwasniewski (Burning Bright). That was early 2021, and to this day, I am still working with Michele! I am still working in healthcare, but I hope to make content creation for indie authors my full time career.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s not always fun and games. I always want to be honest up front with what I can promise/provide, and sometimes that isn’t enough. Authors in the past have wanted proof of profit and sales on their end, and that isn’t the purpose of my business. My sole purpose is to take marketing off of an author’s hands so they have more time to do the thing they do best: write. I will never promise that an author will sell more books or become the next best thing if they hire me.
Another thing I constantly run in to is AI. I absolutely despise everything that has to do with AI in a creative space. Unfortunately, AI is everywhere, and is getting more and more difficult to decipher. I have run in to people asking me to market a book that was written in AI, and I had to refuse to do that.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create social media content for indie authors. I create social media posts using services such as Canva. I can create a whole campaign for a book/author that include: cover reveals, release countdowns, ARC/Street Teams, as well as simple graphics that include: tropes, quotes, aesthetics, and reviews.

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
As stated before, I love to use Canva to help with the creative process for graphics.
