Check Out Lindsay Whitman’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Whitman.

Hi Lindsay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I began my professional career in 2014, entering the mental health field with a strong commitment to serving some of the most vulnerable members of our community. I worked with the local mental health authority as an intake specialist, supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and providing care within nursing facilities for those living with mental illness. During this time, I also volunteered as a member of the county Adult Protective Services Board, serving as board secretary and advocating for the safety and well-being of at-risk adults.

Following this early work, I joined APN Behavioral Healthcare, where I have spent the past decade providing counseling services to individuals across the lifespan, including children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and the elderly. My counseling approach is eclectic and client-centered, incorporating cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and motivational interviewing to meet each person’s unique needs. As a Certified Grief Informed Professional, I bring particular compassion and understanding to those navigating loss. I offer tele-counseling services, expanding access to care and allowing clients to receive support from the comfort and privacy of their own homes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to serving others, even while facing significant personal challenges. In 2022, after years of working in the mental health field, I experienced the devastating loss of my infant daughter. That profound loss reshaped my understanding of grief, resilience, and healing, adding a deeply personal dimension to the work I had already dedicated myself to.

Continuing to support clients while navigating my own grief required strength and vulnerability. Rather than stepping away from the work, I allowed my lived experience to inform my practice, deepening my empathy for those facing loss, trauma, and life-altering transitions. This journey strengthened my belief in the importance of compassionate, grief-informed care—meeting people where they are and honoring each individual’s path to healing.

Today, as a Certified Grief Informed Professional, I bring both clinical expertise and heartfelt understanding to my work. My story is one of resilience, authenticity, and a commitment to transforming personal loss into meaningful support for others.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As a licensed professional counselor, I am most proud of my ability to walk alongside people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives with compassion, honesty, and hope. Experiencing the loss of my infant daughter, this was a life-altering event that profoundly shaped both who I am and how I show up for my clients. While I would never wish that pain on anyone, it deepened my understanding of grief and resilience and strengthened my commitment to providing truly grief-informed care.

What sets me apart is the combination of professional experience and lived understanding I bring to my work. I believe healing happens through connection, feeling seen, and being met without judgment. I am known for creating a safe, supportive space where clients feel comfortable being vulnerable, and for helping them find strength and clarity even in the midst of loss or transition. My goal is always to honor each person’s unique journey while empowering them to move forward in a way that feels authentic and sustainable.

What’s next?
Looking ahead, I’m focused on continuing to grow both personally and professionally while deepening the ways I can support others. A major project I’m excited about is publishing a grief book that I’ve written, Grief Wise: What I’ve Learned as a Counselor and as a Parent who Lost a Child, drawing from my personal journey and professional experience. My hope is that it will provide comfort, understanding, and guidance to those navigating loss.

I also plan to continue expanding my work in grief-informed care and making mental health services more accessible through tele-counseling. Beyond my professional goals, I’m committed to being present for my family, honoring my daughter’s memory, and living intentionally with compassion and resilience. I am moving forward with purpose, hope, and a continued dedication to helping others through some of life’s most difficult moments.
