Check Out Mary Margaret Shamburger’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Margaret Shamburger.

Hi Mary Margaret, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I studied video production at UGA and started out in commercial post-production in Dallas and LA. Photography was always my creative pull, so during COVID—while my husband and I were locked down in Dallas—I finally launched my own photography business.
Since then, our family has grown by two little boys and a Golden Retriever, and my business has grown right alongside—capturing families, restaurants, events, and more.
My husband’s from New Zealand, and when we got ‘stuck’ in Dallas during the lockdown, he was offered a position with USA Cricket. That sealed it—Dallas became home, and it’s been an amazing backdrop for both our careers.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not smooth—but worth it. Balancing motherhood and a creative business can feel like juggling fire some days. The hardest part is setting boundaries when you work for yourself, but it’s also what allows me the flexibility to do what I love.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I photograph families, lifestyle portraits, restaurants, and fashion—anything that tells a story with warmth and authenticity. Lately, I’ve been leaning more into commercial and hospitality work, which feels like a natural extension of my background in production. My goal is always to make images feel lived-in, beautiful, and true to the moment.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Start before you feel ready. Don’t wait for everything to be perfect—it never will be. The best growth happens when you just begin.
