Check Out Mayra Benavides’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mayra Benavides.

Mayra Benavides

Hi Mayra, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After graduating high school, I pursued both Cosmetology and Medical Assistant programs simultaneously because I knew I wanted to make a difference in people’s lives. My goal was to help them feel good both inside—through the medical field—and outside—through beauty. After earning degrees in both fields, I spent nine years working in healthcare while also exploring different beauty avenues, including nails and hair.

In 2016, I had my own eyebrows professionally done to address their light and sparse appearance. The moment I saw my new brows, I was hooked. The boost of confidence I felt was incredible, and I knew right then that I wanted to give other women that same empowering experience.

In 2017, I made the decision to transition my career and dedicate myself to helping women feel as amazing as I did after that first eyebrow transformation. And I’ve been doing just that ever since!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey certainly wasn’t smooth, and honestly, I don’t think it ever is for any business owner. One of my biggest challenges—and one I know many others can relate to—was battling imposter syndrome(on social media and in general when being around clients), while also getting too caught up in perfecting technique instead of focusing on the marketing and business side of things.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a cosmetic and fine line tattoo artist, I specialize in services like Microblading for eyebrows, lip blush, and tiny, delicate fine line tattoos. I like to say I’m in the business of making women look and feel their best—it’s a great icebreaker when meeting new people! What I’m most proud of is how my work transforms my clients’ confidence. Seeing them walk in one way and leave feeling empowered and radiant is truly amazing. There’s no better feeling for an artist than knowing you’ve had a positive impact on someone’s self-esteem.

What sets me apart is my meticulous attention to detail, combined with my nine years of experience in the medical field. This background gives me a deep understanding of sanitation and medical histories, ensuring the highest standards of safety and care. Whether it’s with brows, lip blush, or a personalized tattoo, I’m committed to creating a unique, confident experience backed by my expertise in both beauty and health.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory has to be the pure freedom and carefree adventures I had growing up. I spent my days racing down hills on my bike and playing epic games of neighborhood hide-and-seek with friends. We’d find the best hiding spots, and someone would try to track us down. I’d stay out as long as I could, racing home just before the streetlights came on—because the rule was, I could be out all day, but I had to be back before they lit up. Those were some of the best times!
