Today we’d like to introduce you to Melanie Delgado.
Hi Melanie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a college student navigating the pageant world while living with autoimmune diseases, specifically Sjögren’s and lupus. My journey hasn’t been easy, but it has shaped me into someone who is resilient, driven, and deeply passionate about making a difference.
Balancing school, pageantry, and my health has taught me discipline, strength, and the importance of listening to my body. What started as a personal challenge has grown into a purpose—advocating for autoimmune disease awareness and the importance of early detection.
Through every stage I step on and every goal I pursue, I carry my story with me—not as a limitation, but as a source of strength and a platform to inspire others.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My journey with Sjögren’s has not been a smooth road. Sjögren’s syndrome has brought challenges that are often invisible—chronic fatigue, pain, and the uncertainty of flare-ups. There were moments where I felt unheard and overwhelmed, especially during the process of seeking answers and a diagnosis.
However, those struggles shaped me. They taught me resilience, self-awareness, and the importance of advocating for my health. What once felt like a setback became my purpose—raising awareness about autoimmune diseases and encouraging early detection through regular blood work.
My journey isn’t perfect, but it is powerful, and it continues to inspire the woman I am becoming.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an advocate for autoimmune disease awareness, with a focus on conditions like Sjögren’s and lupus. My work centers on educating others about the importance of early detection, listening to your body, and prioritizing regular blood work—because early diagnosis can truly change lives.
I’m known for turning my personal journey into purpose. Instead of allowing my diagnosis to limit me, I use it as a platform to empower others, especially young women, to take control of their health and feel seen in their struggles.
What I’m most proud of is using my voice to make an impact—whether that’s through advocacy, sharing my story, or inspiring someone to seek answers they deserve.
What sets me apart is my authenticity. I don’t just speak on this issue—I live it every day. And through that, I bring a level of passion, resilience, and relatability that connects deeply with others.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I see the autoimmune space shifting toward earlier detection, more personalized treatments, and a stronger focus on overall wellness—not just symptom management.
I’m especially passionate about the connection between health and movement, which is why I’m opening a Pilates studio designed specifically for individuals with autoimmune diseases. My goal is to create a safe space where people can build strength, improve mobility, and feel empowered in their health journey.
I also believe patient voices will continue to drive change, creating a more informed and supported community.
Overall, the future is about better care, earlier answers, and real empowerment—and that gives me hope.
