Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael French.
Hi Michael, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I started making jewelry approximately six years ago in my grandparents’ barn back in Iowa. I started because I couldn’t find vintage items in my size or to my exact taste. And I’m cheap. So, I figured I just make it myself. I wasn’t formally taught, primarily just found whatever books I could and did a deep dive into YouTube and slowly grew it from there. As we have gotten bigger, we have had many opportunities. We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and even work with a few celebrities.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I guess I would say smooth road is always subjective. but we try not to get hung up on any negative aspects of journey. and we specifically try to focus on our wins, even if they are little victories
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We specialize in southwest-style jewelry, primarily imagery popular from the 1920s to the mid-1950s. We try to emulate the feel and ascetic of vintage jewelry. I am so proud that I get to wake up every day and do what I love, and am so excited (daily) that people like my work enough to spend their hard-earned money on my designs.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Just do it, I know it’s not profound advice. But just go for it.
