Today we’d like to introduce you to Milliyah Conor
Hi Milliyah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In the years of 2016-2017 I was only 13 years old with no place to call my own. Not many people know this but I grew up with an unstable household I never had the ideal family. One day I came home from school to see that my mother and farther had up and left me all alone. I survived in that home by myself for a little over a month until the lights got cut off and I ran out of food. I reached out to my aunt and she took me in, with her 2 sons and husband plus me in one small apartment it wasn’t all that good but it did give me a place to start my journey off. During the time of me being at my aunts house I got back on track with school and started to find an interest in lashing.
By the time I was 15 years old I begun my journey as a Lash Technician. I ended up bouncing from home to home for a moment but my grandma came to the rescue and gave me a stable home. I saved up money from doing lashes and working multiple jobs and at the age of 17 I got my own apartment. After success with my first apartment and a productive lash technician business, by surprise I began to get a large following on instagram. My pictures and videos went viral and ended up all over Pinterest then from that point clothing brands sent me clothes to model in, beauty brands sent me products to review, and I got reposted by many celebrities and beauty blogs. By the time I graduated I had my CNA license during school I took classes to get it and was also enrolled in a program that my school provided which helped me in getting my license as well.
I am 22 years old now and blessed with a very successful lash business for 5 plus years, still in my own home and getting more and more brand deals each and every day. Now I’m being blessed to tell my story in Voyage Dallas Magazine. I truly thank God for the opportunity to share my story and hope it inspires anyone that’s reading it to never ever lose hope no matter how bad the situation is because if my 13 year old self would’ve gave up at that exact moment a innocent child got her world took from her, I would not have made it this far and have the blessings I do now from keeping my faith in God. I hope to continue growing and inspiring others, I’m truly thankful for the support along the way stay blessed and keep your head high always.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There were of course times where it wasn’t smoothed at all. I was still a child having to become an adult earlier than I should’ve. Along with family not treating me right and trying my best to stay focused in school I encountered so many ups and downs. Although my aunt took me in for a moment of time, living there wasn’t all that great. I got treated as if I was not apart of the family and casted away. I was also 15/16 years old helping with rent while her son’s did as they pleased and that lead to me bouncing around from home to home. I also started to fall back in school but after moving with my grandma she motivated me to finish school! I encountered times where I needed a farther or mother figure and picked up bad habits. I lost sight so many times but had to remember to keep going no matter what.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My lash business has been going 5 plus years strong, I’ve been doing lashes as a licensed certified Lash Technician since I was 15! I provide services from 8am – 10pm and also provide after hour services for a small fee as well. The services I provide range from a complete new set, a lash fill-in, to even just a lash cleanse/bath! I’m currently enrolled in college to get my nursing degree but as of right now I work as a CNA for a hospice. I also specialize in being a small social media influencer with a still rising amount of 29.4K followers I get many brand deals because of this. As of right now I work for “Top Girl Society” as a brand ambassador. I sell, promote and try hygiene products for women designed by women. Hygiene is important to me and partnering with Top Girl Society has been one of the best decisions I’ve made yet. Besides from amazing products the community inside the work place feels like a sisterhood which is so close to home for me. And through my following and pictures I get many modeling opportunities! I also get clothing brand collabs often, business send me their clothes, shoes or accessories to post and promote on Instagram. Another source of work following the influencer marketing I do is the promotion of hair. I promote bundles of hair and wigs, and get paid to post them. I promote makeup as well, one of my favorite products which is my holy grail is a few lip glosses and a eyeshadow pallet from the makeup brand “Xyre Cosmetics”. All amazing products I highly recommend trying them all !! I’m so proud of the hope in me shining through every situation and keeping me going so I could get to this very point. I’m also proud I knew who God was and what he can do for me as long as I kept my faith in him. I’m a outgoing loving person and you don’t get too many people like that anymore. I try my best to do what’s in my heart and do everything I do with love and through God. I strive to be different and set aside from what’s trending and be true to myself.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how the DFW area feels like a true community. There are times where mishaps come and take over but the DFW always brings everyone back together and creates a safe place for everyone to live. There are so many opportunities here besides from the beautiful scenery and landscapes. So many ways for everyone to feel included and there’s always different outgoing job opportunities where you have more options than just sitting at a desk all day. A thing I can say I like least is the continuous rising RENT!! It feels so unfair to Dallas and Fort Worth natives to be so used to being able to comfortably live here but having to drastically readjust over the past years after the COVID-19 crisis. It hurts me because I always, always, always say I want things to go back to how they used to be but even through that this is my home and I wouldn’t choose any other place to be.
