Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Tran.
Hi Mimi, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Late 2018 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Beginning 2019, I started 6 months of chemo, had my mastectomy, and went through radiation and another surgery. (Hysterectomy). Following year was Covid, I had 2 more surgeries.
Through this journey, I know that I did not want others to go through what I did without support. My support was my husband, family, friends, and communities. I thought the best way was for form a foundation that would help cancer patients. At the time, I did not know what the foundation looked like. I started recruiting volunteers in the business world. We all got together and got our mission statement.
Me Squared Cancer Foundation helps adult newly diagnosed cancer patients in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. We help all cancer and Male or Female with their journey of cancer.
Today, we have given over $200K and raised $654K hoping to give over $400K for 2022. Our goal is to help as many locally pay their healthcare to get the treatment.
Results: 93% of people that we help are under 400% poverty level.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. We had lots of trials and tribulations. In the beginning, we raised the money but had no one know who we are. Once we built our relationship with TX Oncology, JPS, Parkland, and many more smaller organizations, the applications started coming in.
We had to stop giving money away Dec. 2021 because we were out of money until our biggest fundraiser on Feb. 2022. The event was a success! We were able to raise $654K!!!!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love my job. I help clients through their financial dreams by helping them through the financial goals. I work for Frost as a Private Banker. My goal is to understand the client’s financial goals and meet them for the family.
I love my community; therefore, I try to give back as much as I am able for the community
I’m most proud of the friendship that I have developed by giving of myself without expectations. I love to hang out with like people to help the community I live in.
Live Love Laugh is my motto! I want to always improve myself so I can be a good citizen of my community.
What was you like growing up?
Growing up was hard for me as my parents emigrated to US from Vietnam. When we moved in 1975, my parents had nothing. They had to work hard to earn their value to raise their family. My dad was able to find a Pilot job as a helicopter pilot. My mom worked odd jobs until she became a hairdresser.
I was shy as a child through High School. I learned persistence and confidence when in College at LSU. My interest is competitive Tennis, Skiing, vacationing, and reading motivational books.
I was not from an affluent family, but we had so much love. I learned that working hard and having grit is who I am today. I teach my children to enjoy what you are doing, so it’s like you are not working.
My son is a fourth-year dental school; my daughter is in 3rd-year medical school They are good kids who want to save the world.
