Check Out Miranda Krause’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Krause.

Hi Miranda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with art at a young age, I was about 6 years old and I was always creating something new. I am constantly doodling or thinking of my next piece of work. Art to me isn’t just a hobby but something that brings me joy and purpose. Without art, the world around us would be so dull and boring. People don’t realize the crucial role art plays in the world and how easily you can change the mood and aesthetics of a room by adding a little artwork. Attending college as a visual and performing arts major, I was given the opportunity to find myself as an artist and experiment with new things. Going into college as a new student I knew that I loved to doodle and paint but my subjects would vary from nature to people and animals. After going to important classes such as advanced visual art I was able to find my love for abstract art. The way that shapes and lines can interact and tell a story drew me in and my love for bright and vivid colors came into play pretty fast in my artwork.

I find so much joy in creating art but also being able to talk and teach others about it. My artwork consists of various mediums such as acrylic, oil, ink, watercolor, and charcoal. I have painted works on canvas, boots/leather, guitars, wood, and paper. I am open to most mediums and ideas!

I love abstract art and bright colors but I also will play around with nature, animals, and portraits.

Much of my inspiration for my artwork comes from my battle with Endometriosis – an autoimmune disease where tissue that normally lines the uterus is growing outside of the uterus. Diagnosed in 2018, I have struggled with chronic pain for several years. While there is no known cure for this disease, I have turned to surgical procedures, lifestyle changes, and of course art to help me get through its debilitating effects. Art allows me to reflect upon my constant fight against Endometriosis and express my emotions in a subjective way. Using abstracts, I create pieces that reflect my own perspectives and passions. I create bright and beautiful designs as well as dark monotone sketches to illustrate the turbulent emotion of my experiences.

I am a 24-year-old living in Dallas, Texas. I have a BFA in visual and performing arts which I received from the University of Texas at Dallas. I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Education at The University of Texas at Arlington. My goal is to teach art classes to high schoolers but I am doing an all-level teacher’s certificate and am currently open to teaching all ages and grades!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely been a challenge finding the time and resources to start my business but I am so grateful that I did. Going into college as a visual and performing arts major, I was faced with a lot of judgment. Most people when I would tell them what I was studying they would ask what was the point of being an Artist or how will I make money? At the time I didn’t know that I wanted to teach art but I did know that art made me happy and that’s all that mattered for me to pursue it. My family and friends have always been very supportive of my journey and where I am now. They have bought work of mine, given me loans when I needed it, and shared my artwork with their friends. It was the confidence and support from people like them that led to me sharing my artwork on social media and creating a website. I have just started my business but I am so excited for what this year has in store. I will be in school for a while longer so I plan on spending all of my free time creating and selling artwork.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am an Artist that focuses mainly on painting and drawing. If you look at my Instagram art account, you’ll see that the way I create and post my work is in an order where I switch between colorful pieces and black and white pieces. The colorful pieces consist of either watercolor, acrylic, or oil paint and the black and white ones consist of acrylic paint/ink. This helps me consistently create new and interesting artwork while switching up what I am working on. I am known for creating trippy and abstract artwork that is perfect for decorating rooms. I have very large custom abstract pieces in customers’ houses right now. I have recently started painting guitars which was a little nerve-wracking at first but now I love the process and the idea of someone making music while holding my custom artwork. What sets me apart from other Artists is that my work is original and unique, you won’t see anything like my designs anywhere else. Every piece I make is unique in its own way and it has my small MK logo in the corner. I promise my customers good quality work made with love.

I have had online orders but lately, I have been very blessed and have mostly done custom pieces for customers. This is when a person has a specific idea for artwork in mind so they email or message me personally about the idea and I let them know all the details of time and pricing based on the size and difficulty of the project.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has played a decent role in my life. I wouldn’t say that I have gotten everything handed to me because that is not the case, I have been faced with many obstacles along the way such as endometriosis, doubt, lack of resources, etc. What I do know is that whatever life throws at me I will get back up on my feet and I will try ten times harder. Art is my life and something that I want to do for years and years to come so this is not something I will give up on. I am so proud of where I am today and what opportunities are to come. I am hoping for good luck moving forward but I am ready for whatever life has in store for me.
