Hi Nyakouth , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello! I’m Nyakouth, though I go by Sunday on social media. I’m originally from South Sudan, and my parents were refugees who came to the U.S. They faced many struggles with school and work, and the highest level of education they achieved was high school. Many refugees face long-term displacement and lack access to education and opportunities, which is why my parents brought us here for a better life and a chance to attend school and work. If you ask why I pursue my passions, it’s because I do it for my parents. They’ve sacrificed so much, and I want to honor them by achieving as much as possible here.
I discovered my love for makeup as a high school freshman, but it wasn’t until after I graduated in 2021 that I started practicing on friends, family, and my aunties, who often asked if I charged for my services. Realizing how much they enjoyed it inspired me to start a makeup business, and on March 22, 2022, I launched my own makeup line. My goal is to help women worldwide with makeup and boost their confidence in their natural beauty. This passion for makeup has only grown stronger.
On October 25, 2023, I began doing hair, inspired by my older sister, who has been a hairstylist for over eight years. Doing hair, like makeup, allows me to help women feel confident and happy with themselves, and I’ve found a similar peace in this work.
This January, I started creating content, posting makeup and hair tutorials on TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram, and eventually expanded to YouTube with beauty vlogs and travel content. Creating for my followers brings me so much joy, peace, and gratitude, and I’m deeply thankful to God for this journey.
In the end, my passion for beauty, from makeup to hairstyling, and now content creation, is driven by the desire to inspire confidence in others and honor my parents’ sacrifices. Every step of this journey has brought me closer to my dreams, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been an easy journey… I’ve faced various challenges, including doubt from family and friends. There were times I felt discouraged, but whenever I encountered tough situations, I always turned to prayer for strength and guidance. Each time, it reminded me to stay true to my purpose, regardless of others’ opinions.
My advice to anyone dealing with obstacles is this: remember that God is always by your side. Pray constantly, and don’t lose faith in His support. Prayer is truly the key to pushing through life’s hardest moments and emerging stronger on the other side.

I specialize in makeup artistry, hairstyling, and content creation, with a focus on empowering women to embrace their natural beauty. I’m known for creating looks that enhance appearances and boost confidence, whether for special events or everyday life.
I take immense pride in my journey from discovering my passion in high school to launching my own makeup business and becoming a content creator. Through my social media platforms, I aim to inspire and educate women around the world, sharing tips and techniques that help them feel confident and beautiful.
What sets me apart is my personal story as the child of refugees from South Sudan, which drives my commitment to my craft. I strive to provide not just beauty services, but also a supportive community for women. My approach blends technical expertise with a heartfelt desire to uplift others, creating an environment where they can feel empowered and proud of their unique beauty.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Me growing up, I was always set apart from my other siblings. I didn’t like what they did/ do. I always had my own interests in doing anything. I’m glad that I always had my own interests, I always strive to make others happy around me and grow a supportive community for women. With a heartfelt desire to uplift others, creating an environment where they can feel empowered and proud of their unique beauty.
