Today, we’d like to introduce you to Omai Kofi.
Hi Omai, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’m under the belief that we came from everything, and then life somehow shows us challenges, and people begin programming us for limitations and lack. So, I’m not starting my intro off with, “I came from humble beginnings.” I’m Omai, and I came from everything.
From California to Texas to Arizona were my growth and development states. We moved a lot, as if in the military. I graduated high school at 17 and was off to college. I was never really on campus from elementary school through college because I was a superstar athlete and a peer leader, and we were always off-campus.
I act the same way now and have had to learn how to be an entrepreneur at around 28 years of age. I knew I couldn’t work for anyone because I was too much of a boss myself. I also knew I wanted to retire before 50 because there’s no way in hell we were out on this earth to live 70 – 100 years to work and die.
Most of my relatives are also entrepreneurs or high-income earners, so it’s definitely in the blood.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I like how Dr. George C. Fraser puts it, “Challenges are not blocking the path. They ARE the path.”
I would admit that what I used to see as a struggle was just direction. For example, when I was buying one of my first rental homes in order to have passive income as a landlord, I was approved and then denied my loan.
I almost lost the deal, but my loan officer quit that company, took my file to a new company she began working at, and after a stressful week or so, I had my keys to my first rental house! While in it, I felt horrible. Now I know that the new lender deserves my business!
There was a year (2017) where I felt like the entire 42 chapters of The Book Of Job. The home was in forbearance, going through a 2nd divorce, no one would hire me (over qualified), and I had a new child to take care of.
After coming from 3 generations of poverty, welfare, and abusive relationships, I swore I would get government assistance. I so could’ve used it that year. It was depressing even though I wasn’t necessarily depressed; I was stressed!
2018 the floodgates demanded themselves to open, I swam through the abundant waters of restoration. I’ve been in that ever since.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work is pretty unique. If I had a title, it would be unequivocally CEO. I’m such a Chief Executive Officer to my core. I use strategy as my driving force. People know me as someone they can call for sound advice, wealth strategies, and critical thinking. I pride myself in being “The Go To Person”, but have learned who to help and who to observe.
I technically don’t have work or a job. I live off my investments. I definitely am always looking for Alternative Investments (that will be a lifelong thing for me).
What sets me apart from most is immediacy. I’m one of a kind because I will take on your problems and solve them like they are my own. I have been learning not to be the hero or enabler by simply listening and hearing. You can’t be everything to everyone, so practice brings me to me (now). I still support others who truly deserve it, though.
“I’m not here to inspire you, I am here to retire you!” – Dr. Omai Kofi
It’s not a quote I create, it’s a life lesson and a platform for people who recognize that: RETIREMENT IS NOT AN AGE, IT IS A STRATEGY. My current role is to help people wake up to the wealth in them through investing. Helping people strategize better and organize to an advantage of not working until you can’t work anymore.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
My success equation is start it + finish it = Boom, you are successful!
I would like to add that having a successor makes you successful because now there are people behind you that you’re able to share generational legacies and build generational wealth. When you operate out of a system of multiplicity or duplicity, to me, you are successful.
Successes have formulas. Each of us is to create those formulas. Diversity is key.
