Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Moore.
Hi Rachel, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I have always loved photography growing up. I remember taking a photography class in school as an 8th grader, and one day, my teacher told my mom, “Rachel really has a great eye for this.” That stuck with me because at that time, I was totally just messing around and had no clue what I was doing, but she saw the potential in me, and I haven’t forgotten that. As I got older, I started doing more and more photoshoots but only for fun. I always said I’d never do it as a way of income because it would take the joy out of it for me. I have learned very recently that I was so wrong! I ended up getting a job in social media a couple years ago for a CrossFit gym in California. I would go out there every few months to take photos at the gym and then use those photos for content on their social media. I quickly grew in love with this as I got more into CrossFit myself and found how exciting it was to combined two big passions of mine! From this, I was able to get more and more opportunities. I started working for MINT dentistry in Dallas on the marketing team and having different responsibilities, including social media and photography. I learned the ins and outs of effective marketing through the incredible team there and was able to do some very high-end shoots with them, such as summer campaigns, luxury photos for billboards, doctor headshots, etc. From there, I realized that this is what I want to be doing full-time. I want to take a leap of faith and start something on my own. I am now stepping into this role of having my own photography business and taking on clients of all variety such as gyms, CrossFit competitions, family portraits, company apparel shoots, product shoots, and so on.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
So far, it has not been too bad! I think the biggest challenge for me in this journey has been having the courage to step away from the security of a corporate 9-5 office job and really take a chance on myself. I am still in the beginning stages of this, so honestly, it’s still scary. But I trust myself and the talents and passion God has given me, so I am so excited to see where this goes!
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance photographer and social media manager. I specialize in fitness and lifestyle photography. I shoot for many CrossFit competitions/gyms and fitness apparel/products as well. I run a few different social media accounts right now, where I typically create content for the business and use that to schedule and plan posts while also responding to the business’s messages, comments, engaging with followers, etc. I think what sets me apart is the passion I have for capturing the “in the moment” photos. Don’t get me wrong, I do a lot of posed shots, but I will always love the candid moments more than anything. Along with that, I think I am great with action shots as well. I get to combine those two things when it comes to competition photography, and it’s amazing. I also think something that sets me apart is that I love just connecting with people. I am an extrovert and always do my best to make my clients feel comfortable in front of the camera. I want them to have fun, and I want to have fun too!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I think what matters most to me is knowing I put all of my effort into a shoot and also knowing my client is satisfied with my final product for them. If I give it my all and if they are happy, it’s a huge win for me.
