Today we’d like to introduce you to Rhydian Amy.
Rhydian, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was a young kid from Waco Tx. Growing up my family played sports and video games! no matter what it came to I always ended up dancing! Whether it was th Micheal Jackson experience on the Wii or the HipHop game on Xbox Kinect even making little routines with my siblings it was something I was always attracted to! All through my highschool I watched dance video online hoping to be like the people I saw! It wasn’t until my freshman year at Texas tech i wanted to explore outside. I ended up trying out for the college hip Hop club Dancers With Soul, and for my first two years attending I grew to love it even more! So much I moved to Dallas to audition for my favorite nba dance team D-Town Crew (Dallas Mavericks) I made it my first try and since then I’ve been living out that little boys dream.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has been anything BUT smooth! Facing challenges like dislocating both my knees, it was just before a month before we had to perform at halftime
For a Texas tech basketball game it wasn’t first time choreographing anything for something that big and I injured myself becoming incapable to participate.
There was also my two crashes. Hit by an 18 wheeler twice once freshman year spring semester, and the second time my
Junior year fall semester. Being a dancer without reliable transportation in Texas is practically the worst combination possible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a choreographer/dancer. I create pieces that tell people who I am whether it’s the nostalgic song choices of Disney channel classics, or old jams my mother would play as we cleaned the house. I specialize in hip-hop but, I like to think it spans to more than just that one style. I’m most proud of my 2026 HYPE set my first time making a full lengthed choreo with no assistance! What sets me apart from others is simple. I’m the only Rhydian, no one else is like me I am the embodiment of my experiences which makes me unique but the art is what gives people that connection to relate!
What does success mean to you?
Legacy! To be the household name no matter who’s home it’s in! To be the name everyone knows is true success. When I’m gone from this world or even taking a break when your name holds Weight in a field is when I’ll know I’ve truly made it!
