Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Kent. 

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a love of food and cooking. During the pandemic, I decided to learn how to make chocolate bonbons as a hobby. At first, I gave them away to friends and family, but people quickly started to ask if they could purchase them as well. With this encouragement, I decided to host a series of pop-up shops in 2021 and each one sold out! The business has continued to grow since then. 

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Chocolate bonbons are one of the most technically challenging foods to make well. It is a game of degrees and grams – if the temperature is too warm, or if you don’t measure your ingredients accurately, the bonbon can be ruined. There are dozens of steps in the process and it can take days to complete, but that only makes it more satisfying when you get it right. There’s no better feeling than at the end of the process, turning over the chocolate mold and watching the perfectly shiny and delicious bonbons release neatly onto the counter.

Kent Fine Chocolates is a Dallas-based chocolatier specializing in molded bonbons. Our chocolates feature a mirror finish so brilliant you can see your reflection in them. Each bonbon is made by hand using the highest-quality couverture, real fruit, and fresh ingredients, which allows us to achieve fun and bold flavors like S’mores and Champagne Poprock. 

What’s next?
The business is growing quickly! When I first got started in late 2020, I was making everything at home in small batches. Now I am renting space in a commercial kitchen, producing in much larger quantities, and there’s still room for growth. For now, I am focused on building my customer base, developing the brand, and producing the most beautiful and delicious chocolates around!
