Check Out Rose Mun’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Mun.

Hi Rose, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Growing up in my life, I was always told I was a jack of all trades. However, I felt unfulfilled in my life and wanted to try something new. There’s a saying that goes, “When something is meant for you, everything will align perfectly.”

I didn’t finish college and even tried to go back multiple times for different career paths. From international business law, to bring a pharmacist, trying to be a doctor, and even dipping my toe in graphic design – college just wasn’t meant for me. I kept listening to everyone around me telling me to do things or steer my life path.

At 25, I felt like I was hitting a quarter-life crisis and wanted to take the risk on myself. I figured, “What’s the worst that could happen?”. I could lose my money, my time, be horrible at whatever it is I try to do, but at least I can say I did it.

I decided to sit on the thought of becoming a tiny fine-line tattoo artist for at least two weeks. I looked up flights, put in a request at work, and next thing you know, I was in LA. I thought I was going to be horrible at it. I haven’t drawn anything in over 15 years and yet, here I was trying something new.

I had this huge belief backing me up that everything was going to be okay. I felt deep in my heart and in my intuition that this was something I needed to do (even if I may turn out to be bad at it). I finished the course, tattooed my first live model, and got certified!

After coming back to Texas months later, I rented out my own private studio suite at the Dallas Beauty Bar in Richardson, TX. I wanted to create a safe for other women who felt uncomfortable in a Tattoo shop or simply had bad experiences with men (coming from a personal experience).

What I thought was just going to be a side gig for one client a week turned into 15 clients a week and now over 200 people on a waitlist. I have people flying in from Canada, Los Angeles, driving 3-5 hours away – all just to come see me and my work. Which is honestly so amazing and I’m so grateful for everyone’s support.

In life, you’ll never know until you try. Fear seems like such a big thing until you overcome it and realize there was nothing to be afraid of in the first place. If you just believe in yourself and put in the work, you can accomplish anything in life. You have to really want it and make yourself a priority. Like my aunt would always tell me as a child, “Never settle for anything less than what YOU deserve.”

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, it definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I came back from Los Angeles super excited to start this new journey. I started to share a space with a friend to only find out two weeks later she was shutting down for business.

Finding a space after that was so hard. I had invested ALL of my savings to fly to LA and get certified. I didn’t come to think about the aftermath of extra expenses, rent, equipment costs, and so much more. I didn’t want to fish out thousands of dollars if I wasn’t going to be making much – especially if I was only going to do 1-2 clients a week.

I almost gave up after two months of talking to real estate agent and brokers who did commercial buildings. I work a full-time job so trying to balance that out with a new passion hobby was hard. I felt like I couldn’t breathe or catch up at times. However, I knew I couldn’t just let all my hard work go to waste.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a tiny tattoo artist that specializes in fine-line artwork. I am known for my outlines of flowers and script tattoos. I am most proud of the custom designs I’ve gotten to create for my clients. Yes, tattoos are fun. But what sets me apart from others is that I am wholeheartedly my authentic, genuine self. What you see is what you get. You come in for a tattoo session and leave healed after a therapy session. It’s a safe space where you can openly express your worries, your goals, your life, or simply just relax. My “art” work isn’t in my tattoos but rather in me. The tattoos is simply a way for us to connect.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest mentor would have to be Angie from Adored Ink in Chino, California – an hour out from Los Angeles. She taught me everything I needed to know and believed in me to pursue a different career path when I couldn’t see it for myself.

I have to also credit Lauren from the Dallas Beauty Bar. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t have my tattoo space nor would I have been able to meet so many amazing new friends and clients. She’s always hosting amazing pop-up vendor events, and she’s an amazing entrepreneur/girl boss.

The support from my Instagram clients and TikTok followers has been so surreal. It’s crazy how one simple video could totally change your life. And in this case, it changed my schedule. It opened new doors for me to take on more clients and finally have a savings. My supporters helped me to support my dream and allowed me to pursue my 12-year-old’s lifelong dream of going to Seoul, Korea for the first time.
