Check Out Roslynn McKenzie’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roslynn McKenzie.

Hi Roslynn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I am Roslynn McKenzie and I am originally from Mississippi. I have lived in Texas collectively for 26 years. I am a mother of one daughter, who is the absolute love of my life! I am the owner and Founder of Roslynn McKenzie Life Coach, LLC. I am a Certified Life Coach, who also holds a BSBA in Business Administration/Management from Colorado Technical University and an M.A.Ed. in Education/Gen. Psychology from Ashford University, and obtained an Honorary Doctorate degree from Pacific Bible Church, Sacramento, CA in Christian Studies.

I got started on this journey of becoming a life coach because I saw a need. This stems from experiences I navigated through growing up. I was often teased about being dark-skinned and being short at that. Growing up in the South already has its own stigma, and along with being a female and being dark-skinned, I was a target and usually the butt of other’s jokes.

I was no stranger to being bullied. As we know, children can be brutal! As I witnessed other children being bullied and teased about how they looked and dressed, I also noticed their self-esteem diminish. I watched these same children transition into self-destructive behaviors due to being bullied and teased.

Although I had a very supportive family who always showed me that I was loved and affirmed me, I was one of the blessed few that was able to “keep my head up,” so to speak, and push past the negativity and pressure.

Over the years, I have learned to embrace the skin I’m in and embrace who I am in all totality. I want to help this generation of young ladies who may be bullied and dealing with low self-esteem or have a poor self-image of themselves. I want to also help our young ladies to present themselves as “young ladies” and show them that they can step above what they see in the world and go far beyond what life may have dealt them.

I would like the opportunity to show them that their calling is higher than what they see on social media. I know that most of these young ladies aspire to be greater and I am here to guide them into their greatness. I am extremely passionate about the legacy of the young ladies our culture and the values that are instilled in them. I would love to see them sow these values and more positive things into the ones after them.

This is why I started my program. I want to help our future daughters to become well-rounded, confident, and modest women who will be amazing contributors to our communities and beyond.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has not always been easy. There are always challenges, be it personal or business. Work/life balance for most will be a challenge. There are only so many hours in the day and so many things to do, right? Taking care of my daughter will always be my top priority. Making sure that her needs are met in every way and being there for her is extremely important to me. Although it is challenging at times because she is a special needs child, she is what matters the most, everything else can wait.

Other challenges I’ve faced while operating my business are the unexpected expenses and readjusting my budget for those expenses. It is a good idea to have a good business/financial plan and follow it as best as you can. Do not be in a hurry to start your business. Please do your due diligence and research your industry prior to making any decisions and investments. Conduct a market analysis, if need be, for additional information. I found this very insightful.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My background is in Human Resources. I have a natural connection with people. I am a natural leader and I love that I am able to be a positive influencer in people’s lives. I love being able to create an environment to where I can interact and invite people to engage in activities and with one another. I am an out-of-the-box thinker and I am a hands-on demonstrator when I work with my clients.

My program is what I call a “high energy” program because it requires my client’s total participation, physically, cognitively, and emotionally. I am proud of my program because my clients leave with a sense of accomplishment, self-worth, and value.

My program is very interactive and fun and simultaneously, they have achieved their goals and completed the program. Again, the focus is the help young ladies build their self-esteem, and self-image and to draw out the greatness that is within them.

I also offer a program for women looking to “reclaim their time” as they navigate through their new phase of life and looking to reignite that fire that is still deep  inside!

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I would absolutely love it if the community would support me by sharing my contact information, providing referrals, following me on my social media platforms, and sharing this article with their network and their family and friends.

I would also like to connect and collaborate with other life coaches, public speakers, and community leaders to conduct seminars on various subject matters or specific topics, etc. to increase awareness on self-esteem, self-image, and the importance of increasing the value of women everywhere in every way.
