Check Out Rotesha Haynes’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rotesha Haynes.

Hi Rotesha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a single mother of two beautiful daughters ages 28 and 23 and a grandmother of 2 handsome boys ages 10 and 4. I’d started drawing in 3rd grade and credit my art teacher, Mr. Ed Boykins, for all that he’d taught me at Roger Q. Mills Elementary School. I’d developed an interest in Graphic Designs, after seeing the graphics on the Big Red can. In 2021, I’d wanted to sell my art but wanted it to be valuable and wanted it to last forever. After 3 months of brainstorming, I’d decided to try woodburning. I’d ordered a $15 woodburner, burned a coaster with a butterfly on it, and have now perfected my craft into a business.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Unfortunately, it was not a smooth road. In 2004, I’d attended the Art Institute of Dallas, at the age of 28. I’d majored in Graphic Designs and maintained a 3.8 GPA where I’d also made the Dean’s and President’s Lists. Due to single motherhood, I’d decided to put off my career goals and focused on raising my daughters.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Customized Woodburn Art where my main point of focus is designing memorial boxes in memory of our lost loved ones. I also Woodburn portraits, puzzles, coaster sets and eyelash boxes. All of my items are hand burned, one dot at a time.

What makes you happy?
Seeing the smile on my customers’ faces when they receive their orders. My memorial boxes are made to help others honor their loved ones with a beautiful, customized piece of art and help to lift their spirits, as well.

Pricing:

  • Memorial Boxes start at $50
  • Customized Puzzles $30
  • 11x14in Portraits start at $40
