Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaan Nunsuch.
Hi Shaan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hello all! My name is Shaan Nunsuch (Marie Marie on Facebook). Growing up, I have always had a passion for helping. Even with my answer to the age-old question ‘What do you want to be when you grow up?’ fluctuated from lawyer to doctor or social worker—the end goal was always to help others. I’m not someone who came from money, so I would always ask myself, “How… how can I help without having the funds?” Then I started joining Facebook groups where people go to for help.
Next thing I know, I was being asked to help manage a group. Eventually, I fell in love with being able to help moms all over. That group later closed. I was upset about it. My man was like, ‘just create your own.’ I was hesitant because I thought I wouldn’t have people to support me. No one is going to want to join my group. I spoke with my friend Precious (Harleigh on Facebook), who also encouraged me to go ahead and start something. With those two encouraging me, I went ahead and created what is known today as “Mommies Blessing Mommies Free group.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Ha! No. It’s has not been the easiest journey. There have been a lot of negative people who will always rear their head when something positive is happening. Harleigh, who works along with me, could attest to this. We have had people talk about us or even our kids. Things you couldn’t even imagine. But we don’t stop. We just keep going. This is something we love and we will continue to do this till we can’t! Bumpy roads lead to smoother paths as long as you keep going. With that, we keep on pushing through.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
A little bit about Mommies Blessing Mommies- the group was created to help moms get items they need for free. Food, diapers, clothes, baby items. For free! The group works by bringing moms together to help out one another. The group started here in Dallas TX. But now we have members joining from as far away as Africa! I’m happy because I’m doing what I love. This is what I wanted to do growing up and I’m doing just that. What sets us apart is that we’re so genuine. We love doing this and our members can tell!
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me by joining and spreading the word; this group only functions because of the investment of the individual group members helping each other. We function only through donations, whether it be monetary or time and resources. We support each other. Through supporting physical needs or oftentimes just providing emotional support to one another in tough times.
