Today we’re excited to be connecting with Stacy Swinney again. If you haven’t already, we suggest you check out our prior conversation with them here.
Stacy, thanks for joining us again. Just to level set a bit for folks who may have missed our last interview together, can you briefly introduce yourself?
With Ohh Fortuna, I believe jewelry should be more than just beautiful—it should tell a story. Each piece I create is intentionally handcrafted, drawing on the mystique of tarot, astrology, and numerology. Using precious stones, and timeless metals (and anything else that strikes my fancy or whimsy), my designs celebrate the art of divination and connect wearers to something deeper. I aim to create adornments that don’t just complement your style but empower and inspire you.
What sets me apart, I think, is my commitment to thoughtful craftsmanship and intuition. Every material is carefully hand-chosen, not just for its aesthetic value but for the symbolic energy it carries. Items have to resonate with the symbolic meanings of my designs, or it just doesn’t work. This mindful selection process, combined with artisanal techniques, results in jewelry that is very different. It’s not meant for everyone. And as the founder, I hand-select every element to ensure that each piece resonates with this meaning and purpose. The result? Jewelry that feels personal, timeless, and magical.
My personal journey began simply with a passion for the metaphysical and a desire to share that connection through wearable art. My journey to Ohh Fortuna, specifically, has been a lifelong exploration of art, style, and meaning. With over 20 years in retail and fashion, and as a costumer obsessed with chasing the perfect aesthetic, I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of beauty and intention. Over the years, Ohh Fortuna has evolved, embracing new inspirations and refining itself, all while staying true to my core philosophy of intentional adornment. Ohh Fortuna reflects this passion—each piece is crafted to blend modern elegance with the timeless traditions that inspire me. I work hard to effortlessly blend my deep appreciation for tradition with a flair for the unexpected, creating pieces that resonate on both an emotional and artistic level. I feel my work reflects my passion for storytelling and a dedication to crafting jewelry that transcends mere adornment to become an intentional part of my clients’ lives.
At the heart of it all, Ohh Fortuna is about connection—between the materials, the craft, and the person wearing it. My collections are designed for those who seek more than just adornment.
Great, so let’s jump into an update on what you have been up to since we last spoke. What can you share with us?
A lot has changed since we last connected—personally, professionally, and in the world at large. We’re living in a time of uncertainty and continuing crisis, where creativity and self-expression often feel like acts of defiance. As a white woman creating art under these conditions, I’m mindful of my privilege, and I approach my work with a sense of responsibility and resilience. My commitment to crafting beauty in a brutal world isn’t just about the art itself—it’s about preserving space for imagination, intention, and connection, even when those spaces are being threatened.
Ohh Fortuna has continued to evolve as I’ve sought out new skills, techniques, and materials to expand the brand’s aesthetic while staying true to its core values of intentional adornment, beauty, and honoring ancient practices. Walking the line between tradition and innovation is a constant balancing act, but it’s one that keeps me grounded. Honoring tradition is about respecting the wisdom and energy embedded in ancient practices and materials, while innovation allows me to push boundaries and keep the work alive and relevant. Staying true to myself and my spirituality in this process is the guiding force—it ensures that every piece remains authentic, meaningful, and infused with intention.
More than anything, I’ve come to realize how vital community is to this journey. Ohh Fortuna is rooted in connection, drawing inspiration from alternative spirituality, identity, and shared values of empowerment and authenticity. It’s a bond that extends beyond the jewelry itself—a shared language of beauty, resistance, and meaning in a world that often overlooks them. I’m so grateful to be a part of this ever-growing community, and I look forward to the stories we’ll continue to share together.
Alright, so let’s do something a bit more fast-paced and lighthearted. We call this our lightning round and we’ll ask you a few quick questions.
- Favorite Book: I have too many, but one I keep returning to in recent years is Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. It’s beautifully atmospheric, and immersive.
- Favorite Band or Artist: I’m obsessed with Sierra Ferrell. She’s unabashedly herself, and makes music that reflects that.
- Sweet or Savory: Sweet – I have a monster sweet tooth
- Mountains or Beach: Mountains – I hate the beach
- As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up: For YEARS it was a fashion designer AND vet. I was convinced I would do both.
- French Fries or Onion Rings: Fries
- Favorite Childhood movie: Wild Hearts Cant Be Broken
Life is often about tough choices – can you talk to us about your thought process, strategy or philosophy when it comes to making difficult choices or tradeoffs.
Life is full of tough choices, but isn’t that the duality we all face? Every decision holds the tension between the “what ifs” of the unknown and the pull of the familiar. It’s a dance between risk and reward, much like Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken.” For me, the key is trusting my own insights as a guiding light through the uncertainty. I’ve learned not to worry about who or what I might leave behind—because the right people, opportunities, and outcomes will always find their way to me, eventually.
In many ways, my philosophy is rooted in Kismet, Fortune, or even Fate. I believe there’s a natural alignment that emerges when you trust your instincts, intuition, and stay true to your vision. Choices, no matter how difficult, aren’t just decisions—they’re opportunities to realign with what’s meant for you. It’s about understanding that each step, even when it feels like a tradeoff, is part of a larger narrative unfolding in its own time. By honoring this belief, I’ve learned to better embrace uncertainty and view challenges as necessary pivots rather than losses. This mindset has allowed me to move forward with more confidence, knowing that what’s meant for me will arrive when the timing is right.
