Check Out Summer Jowers’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Summer Jowers.

Hi Summer, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Girls Who Run DFW started originally when I began sharing my running journey on social media and fellow ladies started recognizing me at local races. What began as casual meet-ups at races turned into running together, cheering each other on, and building genuine connections. As more women joined in, I kept asking myself and ran the idea by Erika and Sophia who each showed up to races alone until we found each other : how many women show up to races alone, or want to sign up but feel intimidated because they don’t know anyone? That question led me to officially found Girls Who Run DFW a female-only run club focused on community, confidence, and connection. From hosting group runs to celebrating women completing their first 5K, 10K, half, or full marathon, the community continued to grow. That growth led to our first female-only race in September 2025, and now a full female-only race series for 2026 all built on empowering women, creating friendships, and reminding every runner that they never have to start alone and it’s never too late to start.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, the journey has been a smooth road thanks to the incredible community behind Girls Who Run DFW. Balancing a full-time job while actively racing, managing the run club, planning races, group meet-ups, and community events can definitely feel overwhelming at times but the support from the ladies makes it all worth it. Their encouragement, energy, and willingness to show up for one another continues to fuel this community, along with the amazing vendors who consistently donate, support, and share their products with our ladies. That collective support is what keeps Girls Who Run DFW growing and thriving.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve tended to follow in my mom’s footsteps as a woman business owner watching her grow her first business, successfully sell it, and then step into ownership of a second one. Seeing her continue to thrive, push forward, and work relentlessly toward her goals has been incredibly inspiring. Working alongside her and learning under her has taught me that if you want something, you truly have to work for it and that mindset is exactly what I continue to carry into everything I do with Girls Who Run DFW. It’s not a job it’s truly a community I love seeing grow every day.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love DFW, as anyone we all wish it was safer for runners during the day and night. Safety always is a priority especially for us as females.
