Today we’d like to introduce you to T Dot Ace.
T Dot, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been doing music since a young age. Started as just a hobby but turned to something much bigger than I ever intended it to go. I always loved to write, writing stories just to express my imagination. I remember I must have been in the 4th grade I had a notebook, and it was around Christmas time, I wrote a short comedy skit called “A Capenters Christmas.” This comedy was based off a friend I had at the time named Daniel Carpenter; although the story was all fiction, everyone loved it; next thing I know this notebook was being passed around for the whole 4th grade to read even the teachers. As far as being introduced to music was in the 6th grade a kid I grew up with had a home studio; I remember walking into the studio for the first time and hearing the music they had prerecorded, and something inside of me triggered, and I knew this was something I wanted to do to express myself. But it wasn’t until a year later that I would actually try music out for the first time. We start a group called Broken Down Productions, it consisted of 4 artist, me, Crook Corleone, Bleezy432, and Bleezys dad KC Montana. Many artist would pass through BPD, but it always was just us 4 who stuck around. Was had thousands of songs, but would only say a quarter were ever released. Back then, MySpace was the main platform to release music; we also had a mixtape, I don’t remember the name, but they did end up selling a few copies. I never saw any of the money, but we were just kids and loved the art, never really saw it as a ends to make profit. Now keep in mind, I was a writer, I’ve never been able to freestyle or really had the rhythm to “rap”, but the lyrics were on point. So when this project was released many people would laugh or turn the songs when my part came over the speakers. Even though I had that doubt or rejection from my peers, I never stopped. I loved to write. I stayed with BDP for years, but after a while, I started rapping with another friend of mine and we created a group “Texas Ace and HD”. Me I HD I believe released all our music we created 3 full project of instrumental songs, we didn’t know how to make our own beats and around that time a lot of the mainstream rappers were doing the mixtapes where they were rapping over instrumentals. These projects were called “Flawless Music”. I don’t think any of these songs can be heated today. You would have to have one of the physical copies, me and HD took our music to the next level, taking pictures for album covers, selling CDs. But I was the less attractive one and not a very good rapper, not as good as HD so he got a lot of love off the projects, but I never felt any type of way about it, was just good with being a part of something. So our work landed us in Long Beach CA. This was one of typical stories of failed dreams. My first encounter of it really, we stayed in California for about a month, no actual moves really happened, so we ended coming back to Texas, after our return we hit the studio with vengeance and created “Flawless Music Pt3”. After this project’s release HD and I had a falling out. After this falling out, I change my name to T Dot Ace. Here is when I began my journey as a solo artist, starting my legacy of “Loyalty or die” with loyalty or die I created 3 projects chapter 1 through 3. Now these projects didn’t reach out as far as the flawless music projects because I had started over. Toward the end of chapter 3 I came across 2 recording artist, Young Skeme from Riverside California, and Doe BoII from Roswell New Mexico here’s where we created “The Movement”. One of the best projects ever created. This projected reached 3 states something I had never experienced. After the movement we never had a falling out, Skeme and Doe moved back to their hometowns, still till this day we still do music with each other. Doe and I have a whole unreleased project “Dreams and Nightmares. But during this stage in my life I started going to school for audio engineering. I completed my associate’s degree with Full Sail University in 2018. After my completion of school, I created my first album, buying beats from beat stars and creating original songs getting in tune with distribution companies for streaming services “Writings on The Wall” took me to another level in the music game. One Wish was the one that really took me up, I wrote this song and dedicated it to my late aunt who had passed back in 2018 from domestic violence. Here is where I linked with “Keanuthedirector” from San Antonio, Texas to created my first music video. When one wish came out a lot of people that knew me personally kinda took it as a joke, but take it, I had always been made fun of from the beginning for my music, so it wasn’t something that phased me. Even where I was working at the time in San Antonio the Toyota plant, people would come up to me and tell me they saw my music video, I would ask them where they saw it, to which they would reply “They sent it out as a mass text”. That was mind-blowing to hear, someone had sent this text out to make fun of me and it backfired completely, everyone was showing love to one wish and it inspired me to take it to the next level, next I started writing my first short film. The Worst was another single off Writings and was a complete success; here is where I entered into the film side, and Blue Lace was created. I enter The Worst into multiple film festivals, I won my first award in 2020 for best lead actor, and my second award in 2023 for Best Crime Short in Los Angeles California. After this I hit a stage in my life that went dark, I did some things I’m definitely not proud of, I started drinking heavy and losing everything I had built. During this time I did start Blue Lace Productions made it LLC, and wrote some of my darkest music, “The Mad Demo Tape” It was all a part of my frowning process. Changing the way life was perceived to me. Which brings us to current time; right now I am taking Blue Lace to apparel printing and designing, still making what time to crest and write music. My next music project is called “Isolation, celibacy, and healing” and it is some really good upgrade from my past music.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road definitely not. I would have to say the hardest struggle I reached was after Writings on the Wall was released; I started my alcohol addiction. From 2020 – 2023 my life had come to a complete stop. But since August of 2023, I’ve been sober and have no plans of returning to that lifestyle.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in music and apparel design. I would say the most thing I am proud of would be my award I received from “Independent Shorts Awards” in Los Angeles CA, for The worst, for the bronze for Best Crime Short.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have a lot of love for Dallas, being that I descend from Fort Worth originally. One of my recent songs “Pray for Me” off The Mad Demo just off of YouTube statistics shows Dallas plays that song the most, so I am truly grateful for that love.
