Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Jordan
Hi Taylor, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Taylor, and I sing and play guitar for A Dangerous Affair. We’re a pop punk band out of Dfw. When I first started the band, my vision of the band’s trajectory was vastly different than it’s grown to become.
I first started playing music as I was getting ready to graduate high school, so I was a bit of a late bloomer. It started off innocently enough as a few friends jamming in my mom’s garage, but it quickly grew into something more serious that, I didn’t realize at the time, would greatly shape the man that I’ve grown up to be. The funny thing was, I wasn’t even initially interested in taking music very seriously at that point in my life, so it took a bit of convincing from a few friends, but… here we are.
At the point in my life when I had first started playing music I was still in high school, and I was making very good grades, and I was at pace to graduate early (which I did) and go to college with credits as a high schooler (which I did not). This is where the adversity truly began for me, because my parents didn’t want me to be a musician at all, and they tried really hard to get in the way of me pursuing my dreams, and would constantly try to convince me to go back to college and get a degree. It was a big problem in our relationship for a long time because I always followed my heart, no matter what. I was, and still am, a very persistent person when it comes to following my dreams. I’ve never committed myself to anything more than I have with A Dangerous Affair. I have dedicated more than I ever thought possible, and I have lost a few relationships along the way. Luckily I’ve had the opportunity to salvage some of the relationships from my hard times, but it all comes with the territory in the music business unfortunately.
Fast forward almost a decade later and I’m recording hit singles with multi platinum producers states away, we’re playing shows with bands that have millions of followers, and we’re playing huge venues with a cap size of 1,000+ people. We just found out that we won TOP 5 best punk band for the second year in a row last week.
I live for the moments when I can connect with the crowd, and I love finding an audience that I can share my message with. The one thing I would like to end on here, that I ALWAYS say when we’re on stage is this: if you get nothing else out of this band, just know that we believe in you and you can do anything you set your mind to. Everyone has their own voice, and some people might not like it, but you have to use the voice you have if you want to be heard.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has been very bumpy for us throughout our career. To say that we’re tattered and torn would be an understatement. It’s because I’m so passionate and I take so much pride in the work that we do, that I feel like sometimes the pressure can mount a little bit at times.
The biggest hurdle that we had to jump was the fact that our debut EP, which we had spent thousands of dollars to record, was released just a month before COVID hit. That was a devastating blow to our career because we hadn’t yet learned the importance of social media, and just how much musicians were needing to rely on it at that time. It took us a while to recoup from that because all of our big shows for that year had to be canceled. At that time, we relied very heavily on shows to keep our business objectives afloat, so consequently we lost a lot of money. It took us a few years to come out with new music after that because I lost all of my other members after COVID, and I had to start all over with a completely new set of members.
Now, I’m happy to say that A Dangerous Affair has a full lineup for the first time in a long time. It’s nice to find people who are fun and easy to work with, but it takes time to find a group of people who you can genuinely and legitimately call your family, and after what’s felt like an eternity, we’ve finally accomplished that. I want to give a shoutout to some of the best bandmates and friends that I could possibly ask for: my drummer Bre, my guitarist Marcus, and my bassist Alan. I appreciate my bandmates, and I’m excited for what the future has in store for us.
We’ve come a long way since then, because we just released a brand new song, along with an accompanied music video last month, and we’re releasing another new single and music video early next year as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the singer and guitar player of the pop punk band, A Dangerous Affair. I’m also the song writer, founder, booking agent, and at the time of writing this, I’m currently the active manager of the band. Above all else though, I’m a performer at heart. I’m most myself when I’m on stage, I’ve even dabble at stand up comedy a time or two. I feel like we’re most known for our energetic stage presence and the genuine message of our lyrics. That’s what sets us apart the most in the scene, is our message. We want to leave a positive impact on those around us, and we aspire to truly and genuinely inspire our fans with our artistry.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve had a lot of important people in my life who’ve helped shaped me and my career. I want to give a shoutout to my OG guitarist, the first person to really believe in me, one of my best friends, Nick. He helped me understand what is it to take my music dreams seriously. I also want to extend another big shoutout to one of my other best friends, my old drummer Will. He was with me through some of the best, as well as some of the most difficult times in my life, and I want to thank him for standing by me like a true friend for all these years. He helped me through so much of my journey, and both of those gentlemen will be my brothers for life. Lastly I want to give a special shoutout to Zack and Kenneth of ZK Studios. They were pivotal in helping us hone in on our unique and standout style of sound. They were extremely supportive throughout the entire recording process, and we couldn’t thank them enough for that.
