Check Out Teri Wilson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Teri Wilson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Deep down, I always wanted to be a writer. I grew up as an only child, and books held a special place in my heart. I’ve been a reader my whole life and dabbled in writing in school. But it wasn’t until I was in my 40’s that I got serious about trying to write fiction. I joined an online writing group that had weekly writing prompts for short stories, and that’s how I started. A year or so in, I wrote my first book. I was awful and will never see the published light of day, but it taught me how to start and (more importantly) finish a novel. So I took what I learned and wrote the next…and the next…and so on. Honestly, this is my dream career and I am thrilled I get to tell stories for a living. Books will always have my heart, and everything else that comes with this wild ride of a career is just icing on the cake.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Publishing is tough industry, and anyone who has been in it long enough has surely experienced their fare share of disappointment or heartbreak. I’ve had a book cancelled before, and I’ve experienced various disasters like all my book preorders accidentally being cancelled right before release day and editorial shakeups at different publishers. But I love what I do, and I think the mark of a successful writing career is pressing on and continuing to create stories you are passionate about, despite the setbacks.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of romantic fiction. Romantic comedy is my favorite genre, and three of my books have been adapted into four different Hallmark Channel Original Movies, including Unleashing Mr. Darcy (and its sequel Marrying Mr. Darcy), The Art of Us and Northern Lights of Christmas (based on by book Sleigh Bell Sweethearts). I’m also a recipient of the prestigious RITA Award for excellence in romantic fiction, and I’m a recent inductee into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame. My books are known for being heartwarming, feel-good stories, which is very important to me. I think the world needs a lot more stories and content rooted in kindness and warmth. I’m also a big dog lover! My Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Charm, is a registered therapy dog and reading education assistance dog. We visit local schools and health care facilities, spreading doggy joy. Most of my books include canine characters as well.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success, to me, is getting to do what I love best (writing!), while also living a full life and embracing faith, family, friends and my furry besties.
