Check Out Tony Roberson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tony Roberson.

Hi Tony, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Sure thing! My creative journey really started over a decade ago, rooted in a deep love for visual storytelling — whether through design, photography, or video. I began honing my craft in graphic design and photography early on, working on everything from community projects to freelance opportunities. Those experiences gave me not only technical skills, but a strong sense of how to visually communicate ideas that resonate.

Over time, I expanded into audio/visual production and eventually into marketing communications, where I saw the bigger picture of how strategy and creativity come together to move people and brands. After earning my BA in Studio Art, I jumped into agency life and in-house roles where I began to wear multiple hats — from Digital Designer to Art Director — leading campaigns across print, digital, social, and video.

Today, I’m focused on merging creativity with purpose — whether it’s driving student engagement at Ogle School or crafting digital experiences that reflect a brand’s identity. I’ve worked across industries, but what drives me is the challenge of building visually compelling, culturally relevant content that has real impact. That same curiosity and adaptability I had in the beginning is what keeps pushing me forward.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, it hasn’t been a smooth road but that’s where a lot of the growth has happened. Working in creative fields like design, photography, and marketing means constantly adapting to changing technologies, tight deadlines, and evolving client expectations. Early on, one of the biggest challenges was learning how to balance creative vision with strategic goals — making sure the work not only looked great but also performed well too.

Another challenge has been navigating nontraditional career paths. I’ve worked across agencies, corporate teams, and short-term contracts — each with its own pace, culture, and demands. That instability can be tough, but it also taught me how to be resourceful, build strong relationships quickly, and lead confidently in fast-paced environments.

There were moments of burnout and self-doubt, especially when juggling multiple roles or freelance work after finishing my degree. But over time, I’ve learned how to prioritize, set boundaries, and lean into collaboration. Every struggle sharpened my skills and clarified my purpose. I am thankful to continue to use my creativity not just to make things look good, but to make a meaningful impact.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in creative direction, visual storytelling, and building relatable campaigns that connect with audiences. My work lives at the intersection of art with bold graphics, purposeful campaigns, and creating immersive experiences that don’t just follow trends, but lead with authenticity. Since beginning my career, I’ve had the chance to create everything from brand campaigns and digital experiences to social media content and video production.

What I’m most known for is being a creative problem-solver. I am someone who can take a project from idea to execution while making sure it connects with the right audience. I’ve been trusted to lead projects in both agency and in-house environments, and I’m proud of my ability to stay adaptable and deliver high-quality work, even under pressure.

One of the proudest moments in my journey was creatively advancing branding for Scottish Rite Hospital — work that sparked real engagement and carried real weight. It reminded me that design can do more than sell. It can stand for something. That project reminded me of the power of telling stories is what matters most in this field. This has now also prompted me to lead and design high quality mural campaigns in the heart of Atlanta.

What sets me apart is the mix of creativity, strategy, and empathy I bring to the table. I don’t just focus on aesthetics — I think deeply about how people experience content and how that experience can move them to feel, think, or act differently. I’m also constantly learning and evolving — whether it’s new tools, attending conferences, or figuring out better ways to collaborate. I believe everyone has a voice and vision, so seeing this come together is a key part of making sure everyone is heard.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was a curious kid with a wild imagination and a deep love for visuals. I was the one always sketching in the margins of notebooks, designing graphics on my phone, and studying artist like Virgil Abloh in college. I saw the world in colors, textures, and sounds — and I was constantly trying to capture or recreate what I felt.

Personality-wise, I’ve always been both observant and expressive — the kind of person who watches closely, listens deeply, and then channels all of that into creative output. I was drawn to anything that let me explore identity, culture, and emotion: photography, design, storytelling. I loved experimenting and figuring things out on my own, which turned into a lifelong habit of teaching myself new tools and staying ahead of the curve.

I wasn’t the loudest in the room, but I’ve always had a strong sense of voice — and creativity became the way I used it. Looking back, all those early interests weren’t just hobbies — they were the foundation for everything I do now.
