Check Out Troy Grant’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Troy Grant.

Troy Grant

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was 14 years old, I learned about my gift for entertaining; my mom was always the one pushing me to display my gifts, being as in school I rarely seemed to fit in with anyone, music soon became my only safe space. In August of 2013, I lost my mother in a car accident, and that fueled my initial spark to get going and truly take my music career seriously (yes, at 14) In that time, I took every gig I could find from open mic nights at coffee shops to catholic masses (don’t ask) if you had ears and were willing to listen, I would probably sing to you. In 2017 I got introduced to. Local band by the name of D & Chi, whom I owe a large amount of my early success to, they gave me the rundown on how to truly take my performance to the absolute next level and how to get paid in music in general, cause up to that point, I genuinely didn’t even know you could get paid.

The next thing that helped me connect the dots a bit was in 2020, I got introduced to a studio called Never Satisfied Studios. They helped me a lot with my recording and basically helped me figure out what I wanted my sound to be like after hundreds of changes, it seems. Now, I do gigs with my band in preparation for my first full-length EP.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My road to even where I am has been a lot: fun, challenging, rewarding, even at times monotonous, basically, anything but smooth. I think my issue before was always a lack of identity. It’s hard to present yourself to someone and tell them your dream when you can’t spell the vision out plainly. Through this, I found myself for a long time walking into rooms and presenting myself an idealized version of what I felt like other people wanted from me instead of entering them as, well…me. I’ve had help here and there for different stages of my career, but nothing that came to pass the way I’d have hoped; sometimes it really it’s just me and my six sting.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I credit myself mostly on my live performance. At almost 25 years old, I’ve been playing shows a little over 10 years, and I’m only just now hitting my stride with what I want to display to the world. If you’ve ever been to a show, you’ll know we’ll laugh, cry, clap, and even get a lil sexy at times (typically followed by a side eye from my wife)

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory was when my family and I would take family trips to Schlitterbahn waterpark in New Braunfels, TX. It was a huge tradition for us; we’d even freestyle rap on the way there. Being a family of 5 my parents both had to work a bunch, so we always tended to prioritize family time when and where we could
