Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler & Kalli Reynolds.
Hi Tyler & Kalli, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
We met in high school in Midland, Texas and after a total of over six years together, we married in September of 2019. In October of 2018, we purchased a 1950 fixer-upper in Old Midland. Being young and lacking financially, we began our remodel journey with a DIY mindset. We are lucky though, as Tyler is naturally skilled in carpentry and learned just about everything that it took to completely renovate our new home.
This project was a complete overhaul. Tyler updated all of the plumbing and electrical to brand new, up-to-code, safe wiring and pipes. He installed recessed lighting throughout the house, retextured, repainted, sanded and refinished the original oak hardwood floors and completely gutted the kitchen, laundry and sunroom.
This is where we discovered our love for home renovation and design. We chose new kitchen cabinets, back splash, countertops and floors and loved every second of the process. Although the project took just under a year, we now live in our dream home in our dream neighborhood!
Outside of home renovation, a hobby of Tyler’s has always been woodworking. After five years of designing and creating furniture, cutting boards and small wooden goods, the Pandemic gave us the push we needed to start our business – The Reynolds Collective, LLC, where our goal is to turn our clients’ dreams and ideas into products, all while inspiring others to create their dream home!
We have been fortunate enough to grow in the last year and meet other small business owners, making connections throughout the state of Texas. Danny Villar, owner of The Wood Shed, LLC in Arlington quickly became a friend after our first visit to his store in 2020. We recently partnered with The Wood Shed where Tyler taught woodworking & epoxy classes with the goal of teaching more this coming fall.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Running your own business is never a smooth road but always a rewarding one. Our biggest challenge is running our business outside of working our 8-5 day jobs. We did not realize how much work goes into a small business until we started The Reynolds Collective!
We are grateful the Pandemic did not affect us negatively but understand the toll it took on other small businesses. We have been conscious to support every small business we can!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We create and build furniture and home goods using epoxy and fine wood. Tyler has built everything from dining tables to coffee tables to entry tables to smaller goods like cutting boards, serving trays, and coasters. We create everything custom and love to turn our clients’ ideas into products! We believe our quality products set us apart from others as hours are poured into each product with a perfectionist mindset.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We love estate sales! Some of our favorite antiques and items in our home have come from estate sales. We wholeheartedly believe in repurposing and potential!
