Today we’d like to introduce you to Vempre Terrell Jr.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Positive self-expression is something that has been a part of me throughout my life. As an author, motivational speaker, actor, and entrepreneur, I have made myself known to others in a productive style. After my birth in Louisiana, I spent the early years of my life there, followed by being raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex of Texas. With a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from the University of Texas at Arlington, I have multiple years of experience in the field of education. Expanding from this, my experience in the realm of acting includes having been a part of the TNT remake of “Dallas,” as well as the drama series “Queen of the South.”
The dynamic personality that I have even caught the attention of producers and allowed me to have an appearance on the Emmy Award-winning Tamron Hall Show. My time as a motivational speaker involves my commitment to encourage small rooms of individuals, as well as massive audiences of listeners. Diverse groups of listeners are a pleasure for me to encourage. From those living in poverty, serving time behind bars, or homeless to those who are highly esteemed in the community, as well as the youth of society, I do my best to reach out to everyone. Expanding from this, my passion for writing has been a big part of me for many years. From winning numerous writing contests throughout my years as a student to my first publication, “The Power of One Choice,” being published in a book entitled “Authors of Tomorrow,” I have seen my love for the craft thrive. My love of writing even expanded to me writing a book entitled “The Eyes of Faith,” which both the University of Texas at Austin and the University of Texas at Arlington have recognized. In “The Eyes of Faith,” I motivate my readers by providing a spiritual set of tools to overcome the challenges that life presents. Through the use of personal anecdotes, I model how I shifted regular pessimistic remarks into a more encouraging, optimistic lifestyle so that my readers also would. Regardless of small things, such as changing the word “never” in my vocabulary to the word “will,” boosting self-confidence, and concentrating on what is taking place in the present, I trace my accomplishments and happiness back to one simple yet often overlooked thing in life: faith.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Achieving success in my areas of pursuit has brought about many struggles, yet it has taught me to learn to dance in the rain and hold strong to my connection with the Lord. There have often been times in life when I have had to work harder than others to prove myself simply because of the color of my skin. Even so, I have never let this stop me. I have shown that being a black man does not make me any less intelligent or capable than anyone else. Regardless of the roles that I have had in life, I have learned to put God first, do my best, and keep the faith that everything will work out for the best.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The notable love I have for being an author and motivational speaker rings throughout my work at any point when I am able to share it. My book, “The Eyes of Faith,” has touched the lives of many readers, and it brings a smile to my face when I am able to simply think back to when the book was simply a few words on a piece of paper. Being able to meet readers in person and have them share with me how inspirational my book has been for them lets me know that God truly blessed me with a gift of writing. In addition, being a motivational speaker makes it known to me that God took my writing and speaking and used them together as a means to make others gain encouragement through what I verbalize to them. I have had audiences of all sizes and diverse backgrounds, and it brings me joy to know that I am able to effectively touch the lives of these individuals. Acting is another passion of mine, and I love to express myself in this fashion. Whether on stage or on camera, acting is a pleasure to experience. I am most proud of myself for overcoming obstacles that have made it seem as if these areas would turn out for the best if I would just give up. Knowing this, my passion for rising above challenges and allowing the lessons I have gained from hard times to inspire me sets me apart from others.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
The Bible is the most powerful resource in my life. It allows me to learn and grow, as well as inspiring me in many areas of my life. Many things are able to be learned and taught from the Bible, which is why I turn to it on my best of days and worst of days. As well, writing is a tool that helps me express myself, and the Bible is certainly a resource that I am able to combine with it. My book, “The Eyes of Faith,” is a culmination of this.
