Today we’d like to introduce you to Yevizy Ovo.
Hi Yevizy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
In 2016 I moved in with my cousins and begged her to take my pictures on a daily. I’d ask her to take HUNDREDS of photos and I’d actually look through every single photo, analyze the and pick my favorites. We would choose different outfits and different locations and then it even got to the point of us making little funny skits. Then I moved to college and I lost focus on taking photos. I started partying every day and forgot that I once loved being in front of the lens.. then in 2020 I was randomly invited to tag along to my friend’s tennis photoshoot.. she told me I could get in the pictures too and BOOM! My spark was back.. I then realized how much I loveddddd being in front of the camera. I guess it should have dawned on me back in 2016 when I was manically taking hundreds of photos and actually looking through them all haha.. but I thought it was just fun. Not something that could be a long term goal. I then got into runway. I’ve walked in about 30 fashion shows since 2021 and I’ve modeled for several fashion brands and creative/editorial photoshoots. When I was modeling I always found myself wanting to grab the camera and take a few pictures. I was always asking photographers if I could see their camera for a minute. Some let me, some were like HELL NO, validddd!😂 But once I got a good paying job I was able to purchase my very first camera (Sony a7c) in April of 2025! This made me SOOO HAPPY! Finally I didn’t have to beg people to see their camera and I was able to create the things that were in MY head instead of modeling for someone else’s image or brand.. I’ve been in love since! I don’t care about the money, as a matter of fact, I will refuse to work with people even if they are paying if I don’t feel aligned with them energetically. Capturing photos is more than just taking pictures.. you’re capturing someone’s energy… FOREVER.. it’s such a beautiful thing!! My favorite thing to capture right now is back stage shots at fashion shows. Especially with the wide angle! And I loveeeee flash photography. I have a little godox 200 going to get 600 soon haha. But I’ve also found a new spark to get back in front of the lens as well! Which I will be doing veryyyyy soon! I’m so excited for the work I’ll produce both in front and behind the lens.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
money and time! (That’s a first huh? lol) I come from a low income household and I’ve had to work since age 15. It’s hard to create sometimes when I have to constantly work to pay bills and even when I’m not working, sometimes money can be tight as far as getting equipment or studio time. But I’m so grateful for even finding this talent of mine and I know the struggles are all a part of the bigger picture!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I like to keep my professional life separate from my creative life until I feel more comfortable.. I’m still learning how to integrate both and I’m still learning who I am and how I want to show up creatively. I will say that I teach and coach. I Coach cross country, volleyball and basketball and I coordinate an athletics program.
Any big plans?
Serenity!! I’m so excited to experience people and be one with nature. My biggest dream is that there were gardens all over the earth and everyone just helped take care of the gardens and we all shared the food and the work. And in our free time as a community we would cook, dance, play sports and other games, explore, climb trees, jump in rivers, drink tea, do yoga and just BE.. hence human BEing.. my main goal in life is to simply BE.. not hustle, not strive, not be rich monetarily, not have a birkin..: I simply want to BE with other people and love each other and enjoy this time on the earth.
