Today we’d like to introduce you to ShuEsq, The Shoe Bar, Asya Mitchem, and Ashley Ogbonna.
We’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
ShuEsq, The Shoe Bar was born out of our growing and developing relationship that flourished while studying for the Texas Bar Exam to become attorneys. Having won and fought the battle together of passing the Exam, we thought, “Why not dream more than one dream?” As Attorneys, to us, that meant also opening our very own women’s shoe store to not only offer our customers designs that are unique and from independent shoe designers, but also to encourage other goal oriented women to “Dream More Than One Dream”.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We have curated a collection of unique women’s shoes while also creating a platform for indie shoe designers who may not be carried in major retail chains. Our collection includes brands such as Kat Maconie, Aminah Abdul Jillil, Penny Loves Kenny, Cecelia New York, and Tahi Shoes.
We tend to focus on styles that are conversation pieces because of their uniqueness. The ShuEsq woman is fashion forward who rejects trends; thus standing out in a crowd.
Additionally, our goal is to encourage women to “Dream More Than One Dream.” As attorneys by day, we hope to inspire other women to reject society’s standards of only pursuing one goal. Often time’s society tries to conform us into thinking we can only be good or passionate about one thing, and that does not have to be true.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
As boutique owners, we measure our success by the number of women we have inspired to start their “Dream More Than One Dream” journey, and the excitement our customers feel when they have purchased their order.
Discipline and consistency are the characteristics we deem essential to be successful. It takes discipline and consistency to see your dreams materialize into what you want them to be. There will be countless times where you may put your best foot forward, and might not receive the outcome you expected. But, if you continue to water the seeds, it will eventually bloom into everything you wanted and more.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
