Today we’d like to introduce you to Simi Kapoor.
Simi, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I am a science major and had a love for computer programming. I was happy working as a programmer and as a recruiter when one day my husband asked me to join his natural stone business. I had no clue about natural stone but it sounded very exciting and it would give me the flexibility I needed in raising our kids. I decided to join the company taking care of sales and marketing. I educated myself on the job learning about all different types of natural stone and tiles. Back then and still now, stone business is all about relationships.
I loved calling and meeting all customers. I learned about different types of stones and how slabs are used in residences and commercial spaces. Since I worked with clients from all over USA, I got to learn about trends and colors more extensively. We just embarked on a major addition to our business. We added a design center showroom to our distribution business. This is so exciting and fulfilling as I get to help homeowners and designers with their kitchen and bath projects and see the final completed photos as earlier, I was only dealing in business to business. it is a lot of hard work involving jugging work and home with my three amazing boys. We will be celebrating our 10th anniversary for our business next year.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
With my experience in working with design and industry professionals and learning about new trends and product knowledge, I can assist anybody get their dream space come to life. I listen to what they are wanting to achieve and show them photos for inspiration to understand what is their style. I spend time understanding the colors they want to work with and suggest products that I think will flow all together as a lot of individuals have trouble deciding a tile/countertop/paint color as there are so many choices. I always tell them to go with the first reaction they have, they have to learn to say NO. its a good word in my showroom as you know what you don’t like. Designing a space can be overwhelming, I make my clients feel comfortable to help them make the decisions that they will enjoy for the rest of your life. Number one rule is always ” Don’t beat yourself up, you got this. you will figure it out “.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
