Today we’d like to introduce you to Sylvia Leyva.
Sylvia, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve been photographing for about a year and a half now. It mainly started out as taking pictures for my friends and family until my first “client” reached out to me for an engagement session. At the beginning, I didn’t think I would make a small business out of it and now it’s just part of who I am. I enjoy being able to capture special moments for others, whether it be for couples, families, or individuals. I encourage everyone to do it! Another one of my “why” is my mom passed away in 2017, and when I went to look for pictures of us, sadly I didn’t find many. At that moment, I wish we would’ve documented more of our lives. Pictures last a lifetime, and when you look at a picture, it’s like you relive that moment!
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a natural light photographer, and I enjoy capturing moments that’ll last a lifetime. As I mentioned earlier, pictures are so important to me now. I really encourage people to book that session and take those pictures! You won’t regret it, I promise! Pictures tell a story, and maybe 10 or 15 years down the road you’ll look back at those pictures and be able to feel what you felt then.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think opportunities like this is great for artists to get recognized and get them out there.
