Check out Syndnee Monet’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Syndnee Monet.

Syndnee, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
As a child growing up in Dallas Texas I have always had music and art around me! Everything from classic funk records from George Clinton and Parliament to classic love songs from The Carpenters. I was always into anything had to deal with art! From music to movies to even looking at old Vogue magazines and imitating the poses.  I can vividly remember my father had a huge box of records he collected and he would constantly play those classic records that had beautiful stories and strong meanings behind them. At that moment as a child I knew I wanted to know ANYTHING dealing with music. As a child and teen, I sang in various church, city and school choirs. I was always best dressed in high school and admired supermodels like Naomi Campbelle, Tyra Banks and Iman.  At the age of 18 my father and saw that American Idol would be holding auditions at the newly built AT&T Stadium my father packed up a cooler full of water packed me and my best friend some blankets and said “You will never know if you don’t try!”.

That moment May 25, 2009 would change my life. From the Dallas “Cattle Call” auditions to the moment where I heard those sweet words “You’re going to HOLLYWOOD!” I knew at that very moment I was put on this Earth for a purpose. Of cores when I got eliminated the first round of “Hollywood Week” I was completely crushed. From there my life took a horrible turn when I stared to bury my feelings in cocaine and living a fast lifestyle as an exotic dancer. After intervention from my family I agreed to fly to California for a 90 day in treatment rehab. That’s where I found my light again! I would use my gift of music, dance and my caring heart to help other addicts come out their addictions. Now I use my platform to break the taboos of mental health, race, colorism, addictions, gender and religion.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a jack of all trades! I know a lot of people say that but very true! I have been blessed with many talents.  I am a model, singer, dancer, actress, fashion stylist, brand ambassador. I am also starting my own organic lipstick line called “Pretty Petty”. I am an inspirational speaker who shares my story of overcoming cocaine addiction and I also spread the knowledge of Holistic Health and living a healthy lifestyle. Mind, Body and Spirit. I am also a brand ambassador for a local holistic lifestyle business named “Earth Got the Remedies” that promotes healthy living, uplifting the black community and empowering black women and black businesses.  I want to use my platform to help be an inspiration to let people know that it is ok to be different! It is ok to be human!  It’s ok to beat to your own drum and have your own identity! I want the generations after me to know that it is ok to love who you are as a African American. That you’re more than just descendants of slaves.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
I define success in how did I impact my audience? Were they able to feel my spirit and soul with my work? To be a successful entertainer I feel like the artist has to recognize that they are somewhat of a public servant and that they have the power and ability to bring social change to this world! A lot of entertainer tend to forget that we have an obligation to use our platform for things more than just money and jewelry. I want to be how the entertainers were in the 60’s and 70s. They used their platforms to bring awareness for equality for African Americans, LGBT and women. I feel if more entertainers would take that point of view we could see a lot more positive change in this world.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
