Today we’d like to introduce you to Zeke and Marty Zewick.
Zeke and Marty, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
We have been professional artists for over 40 years. After Art School, we moved from Arlington, TX to the small art community of Edom in East TX. We both grew up in west Texas & the first time we visited luscious green East Texas, we knew we had found a home. We bought some land & built our handmade home all by ourselves. We still have our studio here where we make handcrafted art jewelry & travel to juried art shows in several states.
We work with the production of the Edom Art Festival, now in its 46th year. In addition, we produce an annual show in Dallas at the Sons of Hermann Hall, Randy Brodnax & Friends Christmas Show & Sale. This is our 40th year for this event, which we started with Randy in his backyard 40 years ago.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
We create handmade art jewelry to wear with our unique blend of interesting materials, bone, rusted steel, gemstones, sterling, gold & other fun stuff. We think that elevating down to earth materials to a position of value by combining them with precious metals & gems brings a bit of ancient feelings forward to be enjoyed by the folks that buy our work.
We hope that people will view our pieces with interest, amazement & joy. We find that our customers enjoy our creations & the compliments they get from others.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
We think that Artists are the interpreters of local & world events and creators of artifacts, myths & heirloom pieces. As in ancient, earlier & now times, it is our job to create pieces that reflect our times, materials & processes both old & new.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Our work can be seen on our website – www.zekeandmarty.com. On the site is a schedule of shows where we will be showing. coming up soon is the Cottonwood Art Festival in Richardson, TX, The Edom Art Festival here in Edom & the Texas Country Reporter Show in Waxahachie,TX. Folks can support our work by enjoying looking at the pieces & if so inclined to purchase a piece & wear it.
