Cherron Covington shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Cherron , really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am proud of my legacy that I am building.
Legacy is not about just money, wealth, its about what you teach your children, so they pass it to their children and it keeps getting passed down thru generations.
My oldest daughter went to Honduras years ago and I prayed she have an encounter with God and she did, she heard Him loud and clear. Just recently her son, who’s 23 years old, called me to tell me about him hearing God loud and clear, guiding him with his purpose in his music and song writing.
All my daughters, their husbands, and children all have compassion and empathy for those in need.
When you teach your children that they have to give back and not just think of just themselves; and watch them pass that on to their children; it’s “PRICELESS!”
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, my name is Cherron Covington and I provide professional, safety and business ownership training and development.
My brand is “Teaching them to Fish to Eat for Life”
I provide OSHA safety training, leadership training, business ownership and employment training to:
*homeless veterans
*ex-offenders
*working teens
*underemployed
*underemployed
*companies and their department heads
The solution I solve is:
*Homelessness
*Joblessness
*Hopelessness
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My six grade teacher, Ms. Hurdle-Jones.
She picked me to be part of a modern dance troupe she created. We got to travel to other schools and places in Washington, DC and it showed me that I was more than what I was being told I was. My mother was my abuser and was very verbally abusive and wanted me to believe the world would ALWAYS be on top of me.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped hiding my pain in 2013, when my first book was written. My book walks individuals through the fog I was in, looking for God to pull me out. My children’s book is my story, the first half of that book.
Taking back my power, meant leaving the voices that constantly kicked my self-esteem way, way, way behind.
I want my books to help others take back their power, for the good of their well being.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
My belief/project is to help those who are broken, by providing my trainings to help them become self-sufficient.
It is my purpose and my assignment from God.
I like seeing people start feeling good about themselves and ready to get up and try “life” again.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do, confirmation given by God. I am to help individuals feel better about themselves and help them find what they are good at. Help them to believe in themselves and feel they can take on the world, with a new confidence.
My training helps EVERYONE, no matter who they are, what they do, or the position they hold.
