Collin Beasley of Dallas on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Collin Beasley and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Collin, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Something outside of work that’s been bringing me a lot of joy lately is playing paintball. I love the mix of strategy, teamwork, and fast-paced problem-solving that comes with it. It’s a great way for me to stay active, disconnect from screens, and reset mentally. I also enjoy the social side—playing with friends and meeting new people at different fields. It’s become a fun outlet that keeps me energized and refreshed.”

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Collin, and I’m currently building a new disc golf app designed to elevate the way players experience the sport. I’ve always loved how disc golf brings people together, and I wanted to create a platform that’s more intuitive, community-driven, and feature-rich than what’s currently available. My goal is to make it easier for players to discover courses, track their progress, compete with friends, and feel more connected to the game. I’m passionate about blending technology with outdoor sports, and I’m excited to bring something fresh and modern to the disc golf community.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world tried to tell me who I had to be, I was a skateboarder and a pretty successful music producer. Skateboarding taught me creativity, resilience, and how to get back up after falling—literally. Music production gave me an outlet to express myself and connect with people in a way that felt authentic. Those parts of my life shaped my mindset long before I ever stepped into the tech world, and they still influence how I approach creativity, problem-solving, and building something new today.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: Keep skating. Don’t let anyone convince you that your passion isn’t worthwhile. The creativity, freedom, and confidence you get from skating will carry you further than you realize. Stick with it, trust your path, and don’t let the world rush you into becoming someone you’re not.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
Differentiating between a fad and a real foundational shift comes down to looking at the underlying behavior, not just the hype. Fads usually spike quickly because they’re driven by novelty, but they don’t create lasting changes in how people act. Foundational shifts, on the other hand, solve real problems, reshape habits, and keep gaining traction even after the excitement fades.

I look for signs like long-term user adoption, whether the trend aligns with deeper cultural or technological changes, and if it continues to grow when no one’s talking about it. If it creates new standards or expectations—rather than just a moment of entertainment—it’s usually a real shift.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I only had 10 years left, the first thing I would stop doing is working my day job. Not because I don’t appreciate stability, but because I’d want to pour every remaining minute into the things that actually light me up—building my own projects, creating, exploring, and spending time with the people who matter. Life’s too short to trade your best energy for something that doesn’t feel meaningful.
