Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Melton
Hi Alex, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love for weddings began with my bonus mom. She married my dad when I was 14 and I grew up visiting the bridal boutique my bonus mom managed, flipping through the wedding magazines she modeled for, and helping with styled shoots while I was a teenager. I fell in love with the industry and spent the next almost decade doing anything I could to participate. I’ve interned with and assisted wedding planners and coordinators throughout Dallas, worked behind the scenes with florists, venues, event designers, and I’ve coordinated MANY wedding planning journeys along the way.
In October 2023 I had the opportunity to plan my own wedding to my high school sweetheart on the 10-year anniversary of our first date. Because of my experience with and love for the industry, I found planning to be such a fun process that brought my partner and me closer together, and we were able to have an incredibly intentional event that people STILL bring up to us all the time.
Everything about weddings brings me joy, and I’ve found the place where my skills and my passion align to make beautiful dreams happen for others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Breaking into the industry as an East Texas resident has not been for the faint of heart. I regularly have travelled long distances to work weddings and I’m still hoping to someday do this full time, but for now I’m doing this alongside my full-time day job. There have definitely been challenges getting started, but my passion and confidence in my own skillset to make this happen has pushed me through.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
AAnd Then Events exists based on the belief that every couple has a unique story to tell on their wedding day, and a unique journey to take in order to get there. We seek to give couples permission to be themselves, in every phase of this process, by bridging the gap between full-service planning and month-of coordination services. Think of us like your big sister, here to guide you through an industry and help you figure out how to make your dreams happen.
We offer online, workshop-style consulting services over any topic of your choice, as well as in-person coordinating and design packages for those who just want to hand things off. Our virtual consulting is best for those couples who feel like they’ve got a handle on the whole wedding planning thing, but are stuck on one or two topics (like budgeting or creating a timeline). Lean on our industry experience for guidance and confidence-building, and to make sure you’re heading in the right direction for the BEST DAY EVER!
Here at AAnd Then Co., we like to say, “First comes love… & then comes endless lists, tasks, ideas, and opinions. You deserve to have not only a day, but a JOURNEY that feels as joyful and intentional as your vision, and you need a team that cares just as much about the details as you do.”
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is about finding joy. Nothing in your life is worth anything if you don’t have any joy in it.
Success in a monetary form is nice, feeling good in your body is amazing as well, but I truly believe the world would be better off if we all started pursuing joy and defining our successes by the moments we made beautiful memories.
