Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexis Crawford.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Initially, I started lashing as a side hustle to earn some extra income. I did not take the business side of it seriously and I always kept a full-time job. I began to notice that I was putting too many hours into someone else’s dream when I had the power and skill to fuel my own. Once I realized that, I started taking the lash BUSINESS much more seriously.
My first step was to get officially LICENSED, and not just certified. It was not until I attended Dallas Lash Academy for my Eyelash Specialty License that I realized I want to do more within this industry. My next step was registering my business Lexie’s Lash Lane L C getting everything official.
Attending the school put me in position to work in and manage a salon front; and also introduced some other opportunities. I re-entered the program to take an Instructors course so that I could teach the skills I have learned throughout my journey. I knew I always wanted to teach in a way, but I also knew the passion for teaching wasn’t in the traditional classroom. Once I completed this program it gave me the opportunity to also instruct part-time. This past year I’ve spent teaching other women this skill and how to handle clients, run a lash business, and create AMAZING lash sets.
While in school I also learned how to market my business more effectively. This helped my clientele grow tremendously. With that growth, I developed my lash extension line to bring more quality products to other lash artists like myself. I aim to reach more lash artists to: bring more luxury products to enhance their lash sets,
help them develop their skills to create better looks, and also help with running their lash business with effective customer service skills.
My goals this years within my business are:
1. Keep making amazing lash looks so my clients stay feeling their best!
2. Teach more people the skills of lashing AND how to create, maintain, and enforce policies of your lash business (which is a major topic missing from lots of lash trainings that are being offered today)
3. Grow my product line and provide more quality lash products.
4. Develop more content to keep spreading the knowledge that I have gained over my 5-year lash journey.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course it has not been easy. I laugh every time I’m asked this question; of course NOT! With any next level you are trying to reach there will always be setbacks and challenges. My biggest struggles throughout the whole journey has been the uncertainties and feeling unsure of what is next or what will happen. There’s always a “what if…” in the back of your head that can be negative. I will say that this past year and a half I have gotten over the fear of failure because I now know whatever I focus on and work hard to achieve, I will accomplish!
I turned 30 in 2021 and let’s just say the year was an EYE OPENER/ VERY TRANSITIONAL ONE!
I lost some friendships, relationships, money, opportunities-but I’ve realized that the challenges and losses don’t define you-it is how you overcome the challenges! Despite what I’ve been through personally, my business has been prevailing and I cannot help but to feel blessed! I’m rolling with whatever life gives me and still reaching through to accomplish my goals!
The support I have received from my clients, family, and friends has been a major driving force in my ability to persevere.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Lexie’s Lash Lane L C?
Lexie’s Lash Lane has 3 parts to the business: 1. Eyelash Extension Services 2. Eyelash Extension Products 3. Eyelash Industry Education.
I specialize in hybrid and volume lash extensions. I am known for customizing each person’s lash set to fit their face and eye shape to serve their best looks. I am also known for educating clients AND future/current lash techs on how to care for eyelash extensions and how to stand firm in your eyelash business. What sets me apart is my care for my client’s natural lashes underneath their extensions and also my top-tier customer service. Brand-wise, I am most proud of the growth and adaptability as I continue to critique my brand identity.
I want readers to know:
1. I don’t just ” do lashes”. I run a successful lash extension business that cares about your natural lash health.
2. I want to teach the next best lash artists out there the proper way to lash and excel in this business because it was life-changing for me! I care about the eyelash industry and the respect we receive so I want to pass along the correct way to do things.
3. If you’re interested in learning the skills to become a successful lash artist you can email me and mention this article to receive $100 off a 1 on 1 workshop with me.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
The Covid-19 Crisis has taught me that to stay afloat, you have to be able to ADAPT. When one plan isn’t working to reach your goal, go harder and rework the plan to fit the circumstances. Never give up on the goal! I also learned that being proactive and prepared for worst- and best-case scenario is crucial during this crisis.
