Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Webb.
Hi Amber, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I got started with hair from the age of 10; I use to always scratch and retwist my mother’s free-form locs until about the age of 16, which led me into my own hair journey. My mom put a perm in my head, and I just hated it, so by the age of 16, I was always on YouTube always reading on how to DIY hair mask with at-home ingredients to enhance my curls, so I would be in the kitchen using all the strawberries honey and eggs anything natural, my dad would always be so confused as he walked into the kitchen wondering where the mayo went for his sandwich. As time went by I got bored with my hair and wanted to get into braids or just something new I had never had any weave in my hair braids or anything so I sat down one day and really thought I was doing some box braids on myself they ended up being very crunchy, so that drove me to wanting to perfect it more and more so I got my best friend he sat there for about 12 hours! Just for me to play in his head, but he never gave up on me and allowed me to continue to practice my craft which led me to where I am now
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey was a bit scary at first. I had so much self-doubt in just not knowing if I could achieve my goals in this hair journey because I was very shy when I met new people, so in the beginning, I would always be overly nice in which I ended up having to deal with situations that weren’t really beneficial to me mentally or monetary wise, but I’m glad I went through all those steps because I now know all money isn’t good money and you don’t always have take every client.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I specialize in natural locs, all soft/distressed locs, and promoting hair growth. I also provide braids, crotchet, butterfly locs, pretty much all the protective styles. I’m your girl! I am self-taught. I’ve been doing hair full-time for 4 years now. I also provide protective styles over natural locs
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Honesty, what makes me happy is when I’m doing someone’s hair, and they open up to me my clients and I are so close, and that is something I Iove. It makes me happy to make others feel good and not only good but feel good about themselves.
