Community Highlights: Meet Angela Gentile of The Empowered Millennials

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Gentile.

Angela Gentile

Hi Angela, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I was STUCK. I was living a life that was not mine—I was living according to a series of choices I thought I had to make and what I thought I “should” be doing. I was a certified pro in people pleasing and finding worth and validation in what I could do or be for others. It was a super toxic situation for over a decade of my life.

I was often told to stay quiet, be less, and give in to make sure people were comfortable. I was doing so much emotional labor, and it was exhausting. These patterns, I was taught, were keeping me small. And all this pretending to be something I was not was actually making me sick: I was angry, anxious, reactive, and always resentful. It was not a good look ya know?

The day my dad died, everything changed. It was in my deepest moments of sorrow I realized we only get one life, and we better live the hell outta it. I took this gift of breaking open with grief to evaluate how I was living and identify how misaligned I was each day: angry, toxic, repeating unhealthy patterns, lots of self-hate.

So, I gave myself permission to heal—to really meet myself—and go through some really overwhelming hardships concurrently with housing insecurity, financial crisis, and my pets cancer and amputation surgery, and define what I value and align who I am to a life that is MINE. It is a lived experience combined with teaching expertise and powerful storytelling where I help ignite and activate badassery in others.

Now, I am the host of a global podcast and speak at events, sharing my story, helping people all around the world with my NLP coaching, and have created a successful online fitness brand, Sweat Remix. This was all possible when I decided to choose myself. I learned through grief and loss that I was brave and could take big, brave actions, and no matter what, I would be ok. So, listening to my own inner calling that I was meant for something more has definitely paid off.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not in the slightest. The past decade, experiencing loss, death, crisis, toxic relationships, and work environments, global pandemics, financial hardships, building businesses and ultimately healing generational trauma, building businesses and surviving through a pandemic, has been rough. Losing so much financially has been really hard, but it has always pushed to take other risks and keep going after the kind of success I want. I can’t control the outside forces, but I can control how I show up, how resilient I am, and what actions I take through adversity.

I think the hardest parts have always been staying honest to myself and doing what always feels right to me, not what I should do or what people expect of me. It is difficult to stay authentic when so much influence is around you to blend in, give in, and follow the path. As you can tell, I am not that kinda gal!

Sometimes, I get off my path and have done enough work within myself to know what symptoms arise and how I can pivot back home to myself. This is one of the powerful tools I give to my clients and what I often talk about on my podcast. The world will always test us, and it will always be a practice to keep showing up for ourselves.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Empowered Millennials?
The Empowered Millennials is a global podcast and coaching platform that shares stories of trailblazers creating new and innovative lifestyles and ways of being. These conversations from real people doing epic things serve as a template for our own level up and spark curiosity on ways we can be more authentic in our life.

Through storytelling, heart-to-heart conversations, and one-on-one coaching opportunities, folks get the resources they need at a major crossroads, make drastic life decisions, and choose paths that are authentic, honest, and aligned to the person they want to be, not the ones they should.

This podcast has reached a global audience and united people around the world who are letting go of the “should” and busting out of the limiting status quo so they can truly go after what feels aligned, purposeful, and real.

What matters most to you?
The first thing that comes to mind is my dog, Noel. I love this little fur baby so much. She is my hero, and I am inspired by her every day. She has cancer and has her leg amputated, but ya know what? She doesn’t let it stop her! She doesn’t let anything create a narrative or feel sorry for herself. I think we can learn a lot from her about the importance of staying present, keeping it moving, and staying focused on what makes you happy.

And that is really want matters: living a life we love! Life is not a matter of glasses being empty OR full because it is a choice we can make about how we decide to see it.
