Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca B. King
Hi Bianca B., thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Like many entrepreneurs, my journey is one of resilience, reinvention, and redefining ambition on my terms.
I started in corporate real estate in the late 90s, putting in long hours, delivering results, and doing everything “right,” only to realize that being twice as good wasn’t always enough. Like many Black women in corporate spaces, I was underpaid, underrepresented, and overlooked. I wanted more than a title or a paycheck. I wanted more freedom, fulfillment, and impact.
So, in 2008, I took a leap of faith at the height of the Great Recession. With just $700, I purchased a new laptop and plane ticket and launched my digital marketing agency, Seven5 Seven3 Marketing Group.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Early success came fast. I landed a five-figure contract almost immediately. But what no one tells you about entrepreneurship is that a great start doesn’t guarantee a smooth road. For over two years, I struggled, undercharging, questioning my worth, and feeling like I had made a huge mistake leaving my safe corporate career. I hit my lowest point in 2010 when I remember staring at my bank account balance of $38.63.
Despite that reality check, I didn’t quit. I doubled down on my growth, learned how to price my value, and built my brand with intention.
I started Successful Southern Sistas (no longer active), a Facebook community where I offered free marketing advice and connected with other Black women entrepreneurs. I made strategic moves and networked as my life depended on it, not just waiting for opportunities but preparing for them.
Building a business during a recession was brutal. I had clients but no profit, skills but no strategy, and every month felt like a gamble on whether I could make this work. The financial strain was tough, but the emotional weight was even heavier.
At times, I felt isolated and overwhelmed, wondering if I had made a mistake by leaving a stable career. The pressure to prove I could do this independently was immense.
But I refused to let doubt win. Instead of waiting for things to turn around, I put myself in a position for success.
I built relationships by networking – not just for business but to get to know the people behind the business. I showed up consistently. And that’s when JET Magazine found my work and featured me in a two-page spread, “Starting Up in Down Times.”
But the press didn’t make me successful; it validated the work I was already doing. The exposure led to new clients, bigger contracts, and finally, the momentum I had been working toward all along.
The lesson? Opportunities don’t just happen; you create them by doing the work.
We’ve been impressed with Pretty Damn Ambitious®, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Today, I run two successful businesses, my digital marketing agency, Seven5 Seven3 Marketing Group, where we’ve helped clients globally generate over $277 million in revenue through strategic marketing.
Lifting others and building community are central tenets of my values. So I created a new community in 2022, it’s called Pretty Damn Ambitious®; it’s a collective that empowers high-achieving women to redefine success without burnout, self-doubt, or sacrifice. We just wrapped up our 3rd Annual Level Up Summit, and the transformations at and after the event have been simply incredible.
I am a Forbes Business Council member and my work and insights have been featured in ESSENCE, Black Enterprise, PIX11 News New York, NBC Texas Today, and more. As a contributor to Fast Company, Forbes, SUCCESS Magazine, LinkedIn, and Entrepreneur, I share strategies on business growth, leadership, and redefining ambition for women ready to step into their power.
At Pretty Damn Ambitious®, we focus on Joyful Ambition™, a success framework that aligns business growth with personal fulfillment. I help women build businesses that work for them, not the other way around.
Because I know what it’s like to hustle hard and feel like you’re getting nowhere. And I also know what happens when you align strategy with self-worth, mindset with marketing, and ambition with purpose. You create a beautiful, rich life and business beyond your dreams. That’s my mission to help more women live full out at the intersectionality of joy and ambition.
