Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Guentner.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started cutting hair at the age of 14! I watched my uncle do a haircut and seeing the transformation of it got me. I started practicing on my cousins and it definitely took some practice as I was nowhere near good. I had always cut hair on the side but never pursued it full time because it was hard as a female barber at first. Fast forward to me becoming a mom I had to take time off to be with the kids so still couldn’t commit full time.
We moved to Texas in 2016 and it wasnt until then that I decided to fully commit to barbering. I worked at a shop for 3 years, built my clientele enough to go out on my own in a suite and then to open my own barbershop here in Burleson. We’ve been open for 3 years now
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Having to work harder as female in a male dominant industry was always tough but I found ways to make myself standout and “prove” myself early on. I would do one whole side of a haircut just so people in the barbershop could see my work right away. It wasn’t until I got better that I just let my work and presence speak for itself. Moving to a new state also came with challenges. I had to start from scratch. Didn’t have family or friends here so I had to market myself like my life depended on it. Thankfully the hard work paid off!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Boundless Barbershop ?
We are a 9 chair full service barbershop. We offer traditional and modern day haircuts as well as beard services which we perform hot towel shaves with straight razors. My goal when I envisioned my shop was to create a place where everyone felt like family when they walked through the door.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
My favorite childhood memory was coming home on the last day of school for holiday breaks after and my mom had the house decorated and smelling like Thanksgiving (fall) or Christmas. Makes my heart happy
